The end of the year came surprisingly quickly, and now it's graduation, and I'm standing up behind the podium to give my class president mandatory speech,
"Dear fellow graduates, distinguished faculty, and honored guests,
Today, I stand before you as the class president, but more importantly, as a representative of an extraordinary group of individuals who have journeyed together through the halls of this institution. As I look out at your faces, I see a tapestry of resilience, perseverance, and unwavering determination.
Our time here has been filled with moments of joy, laughter, and growth. But it has also been marked by challenges that have tested our resolve. We have faced academic obstacles, personal struggles, and moments of self-doubt. Yet, here we are, standing tall and proud, because we never gave up. We pushed forward, embraced the difficulties, and emerged stronger on the other side.
As I reflect upon our shared experiences, I am reminded of the power of unity. We have come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, yet we have found common ground. We have supported each other, celebrated each other's successes, and lifted each other up during times of adversity. The bond we have formed transcends the boundaries of friendship; it is a lifelong connection built upon mutual respect and shared memories.
Today, as we prepare to embark on new paths, I encourage you to carry the spirit of our class within you. Let the resilience we have cultivated be a guiding force in the face of life's challenges. Let the compassion we have shown towards one another be a reminder to extend kindness to all. And let the hunger for knowledge and personal growth remain a flame that burns within each of us.
Our time here has equipped us with invaluable skills, knowledge, and experiences. But let us not forget that education is a lifelong journey. As we step out into the world, let us embrace curiosity and remain open to continuous learning. Let us seize every opportunity to expand our horizons, challenge our beliefs, and make a positive impact on the world around us.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to our remarkable faculty and staff who have guided us with passion and dedication. You have not only imparted knowledge but have also nurtured our spirits, instilling in us a sense of purpose and a belief in our own potential. Thank you for your unwavering support and for pushing us to reach new heights.
To our families and friends, thank you for being our unwavering pillars of support. You have celebrated our victories, comforted us in times of defeat, and believed in us even when we doubted ourselves. Your love, sacrifice, and belief in our abilities have been the foundation upon which we stand today. We are forever grateful for your unwavering faith in our dreams.
As we stand on the precipice of the unknown, let us approach the future with hope and courage. Let us remember that our dreams are within reach and that every step we take brings us closer to their realization. No matter what path we choose, let us strive to make a difference in the lives of others and leave a lasting impact on our communities.
Class of 2023, as we bid farewell to the familiarity of these halls, let us take a moment to cherish the memories we have created, the lessons we have learned, and the friendships we have forged. Our shared experiences have shaped us into the individuals we are today, and they will forever remain a part of our story.
Before I leave you I want to share a quote by Thomas Wilder that has been heavy on my mind lately, it's hard to turn the page when you know someone won't be in the next chapter but the story must go on" I say, looking directly at Sam when I say it.
"Congratulations, my fellow graduates, on this remarkable achievement. May the road ahead be filled with endless opportunities, incredible adventures, and the fulfillment of your wildest dreams. As we go forth, let us carry the spirit of our class in our hearts and continue to inspire and uplift those around us." I finish, the crowd erupts in applause, I lock eyes with Sam once again, I can see the kids surrounding her standing, still clapping, but she stays seated, also clapping looking back at me with a sad smile.
I give her a small nod, before looking over the rest of my class, taking in the moment, before walking back to my seat. This was it, this was really it, Sam and I were going to different schools, over 2000 miles apart. But I refuse to believe this is the end. The logical part of me is trying to convince me that it is, but my heart knows different. We'll find our way back to each other, I'm sure of it.
