When both Altaïr and Aadam had finally arrived at Damascus, they saw a handful of soldiers harassing a scholar just outside the city limits.
Soldier: God has forsaken you!
Scholar: Don't hurt me, please!
When both saw this Aadam gave a signal to Altaïr to engage them and as Altaïr approach them one of the soldiers saw him.
Soldier: Go away!
When Altaïr continued advancing and refused to leave, the soldiers attacked.
Soldier: Death to the infidel!
In spite of their numbers, the soldiers proved no match for Altaïr and were quickly killed except one who snuck behind Altaïr and just as the soldier was going to strike, he was killed form behind by Aadam who embedded his hidden blade into the soldiers neck. Once all the soldiers were killed both Altaïr and Aadam spoke to the scholar.
Scholar: Is that the last of them? I hope so. Still, best not to take any chances. I'll hurry home! Don't think I'll leave it again any time soon, either. You've both done me a kindness, young men. Be assured, I won't forget it.
In gratitude for being saved, the scholar permitted Altaïr and Aadam to blend in amongst groups of holy men. Merging with a passing group of scholars, they walked past a number of merchant stalls immediately outside the city gates and snuck by the soldiers inspecting new arrivals. On passing the city checkpoint, they made their way to the Assassin bureau and entered the Rafiq's chamber.
Rafiq: Altaïr. Aadam. It's good to see you both. And in one piece.
Aadam: Safety and peace, Rafiq.
Altaïr: You as well, friend.
Rafiq: You as well, Aadam. Altaïr I'm sorry for your troubles.
Altaïr: Think nothing of it.
Rafiq: A few of your brothers were here earlier, in fact. Oof, if you'd heard the things, they said... I'm certain you'd have slain them where they stood.
Altaïr: It's quite alright.
Rafiq: Yes, you've never been one for the Creed, have you?
Adam: Rafiq I believe that Is enough.
Rafiq: I'm sorry, sometimes I forget myself. What business brings you both to Damascus?
Altaïr: A man named Tamir. Al Mualim takes issue with the work he does. We're meant to end it. Now tell us where to find him.
Rafiq: Surely you remember how to track an enemy.
Altaïr: Of course! Learn where he will be and when. But that sort of work is best left for—I understand.
Rafiq: Go and search the city. Determine what he's planning and where he works. Preparation makes the victor.
Altaïr: What can you tell us of him?
Rafiq: Tamir makes his living as a black-market merchant. So, the Souk district should be your destination. I would suggest you seek out the following places: a small souk northeast of here, the madrasah to our east. And in the gardens north of this Bureau. Focus on these places and he should become well known to you.
Aadam: There is to many place to investigate at once so I believe we should split up and get more information.
Altaïr: Very well. I assume you want us to return to you when this is done.
Rafiq: Yes. Come back to me. I'll give you Al Mualim's marker, and you'll give us Tamir's life.
Altaïr: As you wish.
