In the great big world, there's no shortage of threats and enemies. From birth, we are all under constant attack. Viruses, injuries, accidents. At a moments notice, our lives could be cut short. The threats in the Fire Dragon Kingdom were not any more forgiving. Living on a massive island with an active volcano, the inhabitants knew very well just how dangerous life could be. As harsh as the environment was, most rarely complained of anything besides a lack of alcohol and food. Fighting wasn't a social taboo there like in most places. Instead, it was encouraged. The victorious could claim the pride of everyone knowing how strong and powerful they were. Occasionally, fights would take place out of boredom. Nothing seemed to be as exciting as fighting a new opponent to these hot-headed dragonfolk.
Victor, named after the feeling of victory itself, was no different. A large red dragon, like almost all others in the realm, spends most of his time training. He was one of the most celebrated generals in the king's army. Winning several wars and training generations of warriors has awarded him many luxuries in life. The king, Mel, a huge black dragon, trusts Victor's advice more than almost any of his advisors. Mel knows that Victor's words are from a place of experience and loyalty to the kingdom.
Victor has been summoned to the Palace today, not for talk of war but for a friendly chat. Victor's children are of age now and are capable of choosing their future lives. Chalise and Bardock are two who have decided to join the ranks of the military. Everyone has high expectations of them, knowing what their father accomplished in his life. Shyv, the only daughter, has chosen to continue training before deciding what to do with her life. She believes that she is capable of more than being just a military grunt. This disappoints Victor, coming from a long line of decorated warriors. Another of his children is a sore spot for him. Boros. Rather than pick up an axe for his country like his father, Boros has been fascinated with the art of magic. All day, he pours his heart into books. He memorizes every word, hoping to create wonderful and captivating spells. His father never misses a chance to remind him that the kingdom was built on battlefields and blood. It never stops Boros from pursuing magic. He hasn't chosen a future yet. Victor asks almost daily if he's figured out his destiny yet. Drilling into his head that providing for a family is more important than chasing some dreams.
At the palace, these are the things that Mel wished to discuss with Victor. Each one had something to gain from such an interaction. Victor could discuss ways to help his children develop as warriors or force them to become more proactive in choosing their paths in life. Mel could help Victor mold them into great fighters or productive members of society. Both things benefit the kingdom much greater than young men and women who can't decide how to live their lives. Victor arrives at the palace and salutes the guards at the front before heading inside to meet with the king.
