The change in temperature and altitude from Siberia to England was enough to make Katherine choke on the first breath she took. Before she could even get her bearings and look around, her mother had grabbed her arm and dragged her behind one of the pillars that dotted the station. Her mother glanced around disdainfully before turning to her daughter and hissing, " Katarina Konstantinovna Kartashova , you have made countless mistakes, and nearly destroyed the family name on more accounts than I can remember, but for the love of the gods if you dare to destroy the plan I have spent so long carefully crafting, not even my senseless brother-in-law will be able to help you. It's bad enough that you have given me no choice other than to send you to this pathetic school in the first place, but if you dare to bring chagrin to our family while you are there, if you are anything but exceptional, you will face a wrath of which you have never seen before. Anything less than perfect and you will bring even more shame to the house of Kartashova than Dmitri and his idiotic son combined!"
Katherine's eyes narrowed at the underlying threat before she snapped back, "I don't appreciate the words you are using to describe my best friend, especially since you have just destroyed any chance I have to spend time with him by sending me to this ridiculous school!"
Yuliya smiled cruelly, her black eyes glittering with malice. "That was exactly the point, my darling. That boy, the rest of your friends, even the man we appointed as your godfather! They are clouding your mind with lies and foolish beliefs that will stop you from reaching your full potential as one of the most powerful witches to ever live!"
Katherine glared loathingly at her mother, who still had a deranged smile on her face. "If you truly believe that the things you do, and the hatred you promote are good deeds, then you are the fool mother. Remember, I have seen what you do to the magicless, and the ones with magicless parents. I know the things that live in the walls of our home, the living darkness that has ensnared your mind. I know what lives in our blood, but I am not stupid. I am young but I am smart enough to know that the things you think and say are wrong, and that if anyone is delusional in their beliefs, it's you."
The temperature in the station had dropped ten degrees, and the people surrounding them were backing away from the two Russians, staring in horror at the dark shadows that seemed to be coiling around them as they argued.
Yuliya snarled and reached forward to grab onto her daughter's arm before she could walk away. "How dare you speak to me in that manner, now listen to me you foolish girl, you must get into the house of Slythe-"
"Yes yes, Slytherin" Katherine finished coldly, clenching her hand." I heard you the first fifteen times mother dearest, and I will try, but from what I've heard, the choice is not my decision."
Yuliya glared and her hold tightened, her claw like nails digging into pale skin. "And remember-"
Katherine jerked her arm away before she fixed her angry blue eyes on her mother and replied, in English this time. "Of course, mother, I'm always one to follow the family motto after all." Her eyes flashed dangerously as she stared into the black irises of her mother. "Death before dishonor." With that, she turned around and strode towards the train, the people parting around the Eleven-year-old like the red sea.
