The time he finally spoke to her (sixth year)
CRACK
The sound of an explosive going off echoed down the hallway as Y/N held her books tighter to her chest. Four pairs of feet came running down past her, and one figure bumped into her knocking her books to the floor.
“So sorry!” Sirius Black turned around to look at her as he continued running but froze in his steps when he saw her. His long-term crush. Now’s his chance.
“Padfoot, hurry!”
The raven-haired boy ignored the calls of his friends and walked back to the girl to help her pick up the papers that slipped out from between the pages of her books. “I’m so sorry. I honestly didn’t see you there.”
Y/N chuckled, “No worries.”
“Mr. Black!”
“Shite.”
Professor McGonagall came up to the pair still knelt on the floor. “Detention. Tonight.”
“How do you know it was me, Minnie? I’ve been here helping this beautiful girl.” Sirius fired back with a faux innocent shrug.
McGonagall gave him a hard stare and he caved instantly.
“Okay okay. I’ll see you tonight.”
Y/N smiled up at the boy as they both stood to their feet. “You got caught.”
He looked at her amused, “I’m glad you picked that up. Mean you got something up here.” He pointed to her head.
She rolled her eyes, “No. I mean you got caught 'cause you helped me instead of running off.”
“Well, I knocked over your books.”
“And I was capable of picking them up myself, Black.”
“Well, what if I wanted to help you, Y/L/N?”
“Then I’d say you’re a gentleman.” She smiled brightly. “And I’d thank you.”
“Then I’d say you're welcome.”
A fond and understanding look passed through her eyes. “You’re not as bad as everyone says you are.” She saw the confusion on his face and explained herself. “People talk,” She shrugged. “But I’m never one to judge. Plus the boy they described never matched the one who is in my potions or DADA class. Except I did hear that you’re much more talkative… You’ve never talked with me before now.” She had also heard of his little crush on her but decided to keep that information hidden.
“I- well you see-” Sirius stuttered.
“I’m always open for conversation. Unless you don’t want to of course.”
The sound of a bell rang through the air, the last warning for classes.
“I have herbology… I’ll see you at dinner?” She turned to walk to class, smiling to herself when she heard him call out to her.
“I’ll save you a seat!”

the time he asked her to be his girlfriend
Sirius sat across the table from Y/N, watching her laugh at something James had said. He couldn’t tell what was said since he zoned out almost ten minutes ago, but seeing her smile so widely made his heart beat a bit faster.
Y/N had befriended the marauders and the girls after her encounter with Sirius. She’d grown to know all of them pretty well and she felt excepted in the group. But her relationship with Sirius… Hadn’t grown strained, but there was an unspoken tension all the while they grew closer. She knew of his feelings two years ago, now she just played the waiting game. Waiting for him to ask her out or confess his feelings despite how cheesy as it may sound.
Remus looked between the two sitting at the far inside of both sides of the table and rolled his eyes. He loved Sirius and he had grown to care for Y/N over the last few months, but he was sick and tired of the pinning. He would constantly pick at the raven-haired boy for being a coward and ‘losing his touch’. Sirius would roll his eyes and say he was waiting for the right time. Remus looked over their group and decided now was the right time.
He stood from the table abruptly and grabbed James’ sleeve. “We’re going back up.”
“What? We’ve only been down here for an hour!” James protested, frowning at the thought of leaving Hogsmead so soon.
Lily caught Remus’ eye and smirked, pulling the other girls up. “Yeah, we’re tired.”
“No I’m not,” said Marleen, slightly lost in the nonverbal conversation between Lily and Remus.
“Well, I am and I want you to come with me.”
The tallest of the group looked down at Sirius with a pointed look and mouthed to him, ‘Now.’ The grey-eyed boy’s cheeks flared scarlet and looked down. Mentally screaming at himself to man up.
“Oh, I can go with you girls,” Y/N said and moved to slide out of the booth.
“No!” Remus and Lily exclaimed.
“Okay…” She laughed.
The group left Sirius and Y/N sitting alone at the booth. Neither of them had said a word, only sitting and sipping at their respective drinks.
She looked up and smiled at him, comfortable in the silence that settled over them. He finally cleared his throat. “Y/N, I-” he cut himself off and fiddled with his fingers, cracking his knuckles with his thumb. “We’ve been friends for the majority of the year now. And I-”
Y/N smiled encouragingly at him to continue.
“I wanted to ask if you’d… Merlin’s beard.” He swore with a chuckle.
“I’d love to.”
“What?” Sirius’ eyes were blown wide in confusion and surprise.
“You were asking me to be your girlfriend, right?”
“I mean- I… Well, yes I was. But how did you know?” Sirius asked.
“Let’s say a little bird told me of the small crush you’ve had on me since the fourth year.” Y/N leaned forward and rested her chin on her hand with a smirk, smug with herself at how flustered he was. “You’ve had me waiting long enough, don’t you think?”
“My most sincere apologies, darling. How can I make it up to you?”
“How about you take me on a proper date?”
Sirius’ smile widened, “I’m sure I can work something out.”

Seventh year
“He was a stuttering mess!” Y/N slid further into the couch in a fit of giggles.
The group of friends went around and told stories causing one of the girls to ask how Sirius actually asked Y/N to be his girlfriend and why she said yes.
“I was distracted!” Sirius defended himself.
“Oh yeah? By what?” She asked while laughing.
“By the sparkle in your eye.”
Y/N smiled endearingly and felt her cheeks heat up slightly.
“There it is.” He leaned closer and poked her cheek teasingly.
Y/N rolled her eyes fondly, “And that’s why I said yes. I get compliments all the time now.”
“I feel wounded that that’s all you think of me.” Sirius laid down, resting his head on her lap, and pouted as he looked up at her.
“You’re such a big baby,” James said from where he sat next to Lily.
“Shut up, Prongs.”
“You shut up, Pads.”
Remus sighed and rolled his eyes, “Both of you shut up.”

Y/N and Sirius walked through the halls, wasting time on their free Saturday. Sirius walked while Y/N skipped beside him, gushing about her morning with the girls and he just listened with a starstruck smile.
“And then Lily said-” She froze in her steps and backtracked to the opening in the stone wall to look outside. “Siri, it’s raining!”
He laughed at her excitement, “It’s been raining, love.”
“We should go outside!”
“I just did my hair,” he whined but eventually gave in at the hopeful look on her face.
Y/N grabbed his hand and pulled him after her. The rain instantly soaked through their clothes and made their hair stick to their faces. Once they were far enough from the castle she let go of his hand and spun around with her hands out at her sides. Her laugh was infectious and her smile was radiant.
Sirius grasped her hand and pulled her into him, placing his lips on hers softly. He felt her smile into the kiss before pulling away, “What was that for?”
“Nothing.”
She looked up at him shyly, “Why are you smiling like that?”
“Just… I could’ve sworn I saw sparks fly as you smiled.”
Y/N brought her hand up to his hair and gently ran her fingers through his wet curls. She pulled his head down enough for her to kiss his jaw. “I love you.”
“Love you more, darling.”
