Dear Diary:
It's my birthday today! I love my birthday because I get a lot of candy! Mommy gave me a diary today while Daddy gave me a really cool moon/wolf necklace. It is very late but Mommy said I can journal for a few minutes before going to bed! I got so much candy tonight, and I am very excited to use this diary ⍢.

Dear Diary:
Today was Christmas! I got a lot of presents! I got a ton of toys I wanted, and then we went to Auntie's house for a party. I got more presents there and there was very yummy food and desserts. Then, when we drove back to my house, we were singing Christmas songs and it started to snow! Mommy has a pretty voice while Daddy's isn't as good but it's still pretty good.

Dear Diary:
Today Mommy took me into the woods for a really pretty walk. The flowers are starting to bloom, and when we got to the top, there was a very pretty view of the town and the far away mountains! Then, when we walked back, we got ice cream! I got double chocolate while Mommy got black raspberry. That is yucky to me but it was a fun day!

Dear Diary:
Today we went to the beach! Mommy bought me a new boogie board and she recorded me while I surfed big waves. Then, we got fried dough and pizza and me and Mommy had a sand castle building competitor while Daddy judged. He said I won! Then, we went to get beach ice cream and went home. When we looked at the pictures, me and Mommy looked like snowmen because we put on too much sunscreen!

Dear Diary:
Today was Daddy's birthday so I helped Mommy bake a cake. She had a very yummy recipe that was half vanilla and half chocolate. I helped mix ingredients, and she put it in the oven and measured stuff. Then, when it came out, I got to help ice it and out on toppings. When we are the cake later, it was very yummy!

It's my birthday again! Mommy got me a new journal because she saw how much I liked the other one. She also gave me a sticker book to decorate it. My new journal has so much cool stuff like a calendar and a page marker, and it's amazing! Daddy then surprised us with trips to Disney World this winter vacation! I'm so excited!

Amelia couldn't stop the tears flowing freely now as she slammed her old journal back. The first one she had ever gotten, for her sixth birthday almost a decade ago. Ever since then, her mother had always gotten her a new journal for her birthday. But... but that would never happen again. She was gone now, wasn't she? She thought looking through her old memories of her mother would help, but every time she thought of her, her laugh, and everything she did for Amelia, it only brought on waves of sadness. Her mother was her whole life, and even though her Dad was great too, he was at work most days, and they simply hadn't bonded as much. Throwing herself onto her bed, she automatically opened up messages, only to see the condolences her friends had given her. They should have made her feel better, but they only made her feel worse. They would never know the raw emotions emerging from losing a parent. They would never know her level of grief. Even though the thoughts might be genuine, silly words could never heal the now opened hole in her heart. Trying to find some comfort in the wrecked mess that had become her life, she tried to go and read one of her favorite fanfictions online. About two paragraphs in though, a horrible thought occurred to her.
"The last time I read this, Mommy... Mommy was alive. She was still here. I could have talked to her about it. I took.. took it all for granted,"
Fresh tears flowed down her face, and she wrapped herself in her blankets, cuddling a stuffed animal, trying to find some comfort. Somehow, she ended up falling asleep. Sleep didn't help, as she was almost cursed with good dreams of her mother. Somehow, in her half conscious mind, she made a decision. Once awakens, she rushed down the stairs into the kitchen, picking up a large steak knife.
"I'm sorry Daddy. I'm sorry Melody and Nora and Lily. But I can't live in this life anymore. I can't handle it. Please forgive me," she whispered a silent prayer before raising the knife up to her wrists. Pulling her arm back, ready to make the cut, she then heard her fathers voice.
"Don't do this,"
It was enough to make her pause and look behind her. There was her father, red eyes, and slouched over, but he was there.
"I know it's hard for you. It's hard for me. Your mother was the best person alive on this planet, besides you Amelia, and she was such a kind, caring person. But, we have to stay strong. We know she's in Heaven now, and she'll always be with us. Don't do this though. Please Amelia. For me, at least,"
Hearing her fathers words, the dropped the knife, and barely heard it clatter in the floor before engulfing him in an embrace, both of them crying freely. She didn't know how long they stayed like that, but together, it would be okay.
"Now, how does The Little Mermaid sound?"
"Wrong time, daddy," she replied, now smiling.
