Louis didn't like to go outside. He'd rather stay in and have his roommate Liam do everything whilst he sat down in front of their TV and played Xbox. But today, Liam had an appointment at the dentist and Louis really, really needed cheese puffs.
Like, really.
"Pick up the bloody phone, asshole," Louis muttered to himself as he listened to the dialling tone. This was his time of need and if he couldn't ask his mate to get food for him then he will have to get it himself.
"Louis? That you?" Niall answered from the other line, his speech slurred and laced with sleep. "Why are you calling me so early, man?"
"It's 2 in the afternoon."
"Exactly."
"Because it's urgent, Niall."
"You better be dying-"
"I am," Louis clutched his stomach dramatically and groaned. "I'm dying of starvation."
"Louis-"
"Save me, Niall! Send me some cheese puffs and it will all be okay again!"
"I'm hanging up now."
"Will you at least send me pictures of-"
Beep.
Louis pouted at the blank screen and released a sigh of defeat, eyeing his worn out vans next to the door with venom.
Louis really didn't like to go outside. At all.
But he did it anyway. He tied his shoes and stood on his tiptoes to grab the keys Liam deliberately put on the top shelf just to tease him. The supermarket was only down the road so he wouldn't be long anyway (thankfully).
Louis jogged passed many houses and approached the store that Liam always goes to, Tesco express. He rolled his eyes and stepped towards the automatic doors, praying that he wouldn't bump into anyone he knew. The last thing he needed was a conversation with a distant relative or old friend.
As soon as his eyes landed on the bag he'd been craving all day, his eyes widened with want. Finally, the struggle of getting out of the apartment and walking all the way to the shop was all behind him now. The golden cheese puffs sat innocently on the shelf, lovely and ready to be opened.
Louis picked up two (because why not) and smiled to himself in victory, nodding at a passing by couple. He made his way to the checkout before realising that his laces were untied. He shrugged it off and kept walking.
He placed his items on the moving belt and bent over to tie his shoelace, unaware of the blushing boy on the other side of the desk. Lou shot back up and shook his head of bed hair then pulled a crinkled fiver from his pocket (to anyone who isn't british, that's basically £5) .
"Uh, h-hello," the boy stared at the older, fluffy haired one with wide eyes. "How may I, um, help you?" Louis glanced up at the flushed, curly haired assistant and took a moment to take him in. His shy green eyes held Louis' blue ones and he smiled in amusement.
"Hello, pretty boy," Louis crossed his arms over his chest and grinned at the shy boy. "You can help me anyday."
"Uh," The boy fumbled with his fingers, looking at Louis cautiously. "I'm... pretty?"
"Mate, I'm just fooling with you. Three-fifty, yeah?" Louis offered him a friendly smile and raised his eyebrow when the shy boy pushed his hair back off his forehead.
"Yes, please." He scanned his items and took the time to look Louis up and down. He was wearing a plain white shirt with jogging bottoms and bed hair, making the boy want to touch it. He didn't, of course. That would be weird.
"Can I help you?" Louis tilted his head to the side to catch the boy's eyes.
"I'm... I-I'm sorry I, you... here's your change." He handed the puzzled boy his change and frowned at the floor. "I hope you have a lovely day, sir."
"Sir?" Louis screwed his face up in disgust. "Ew, no. That makes me sound old. Tell you what, why don't you just call me Louis, yeah?"
"Louis," he breathed, nodding slowly. "Have a lovely day... Louis!"
"Later, pretty boy." Louis sent the boy into a fumbling mess with a wink and picked up his bag, making his way to the door.
"Goodbye, Louis!" He called after him, smiling to himself when Louis waved without turning around. As Louis walked out of the store with a grin, he realised something.
Maybe going outside wasn't so bad.
