The Marauders's 6th year
The Hogwarts Express, heading to Hogwarts
The Marauders were all sitting in their apartment, only an hour away from Hogwarts. The train car was slightly filled with the last rays of the sun as the stars started to shine brighter against the rapidly darkening sky. The four boys were sitting in the compartment which was already littered with wrappers from the trolley.
Remus Lupin was sitting next to the window, quietly sleeping. His sandy blonde hair was messier than normal and the new cut on his face was clearly visible. He had fallen asleep hours ago which everyone had noticed right away but had chosen to ignore. No one wanted to be the one waking Remus up. Last time, when James tried to wake Remus up, Remus nearly killed him. So that ended up in Sirius taking up the job, mostly because Peter thought Remus was going to kill him and was really scared.
Sirius Black was watching James and Peter play a game of exploding snap, which Sirius suggested after hearing hours of James talking about his new crush. At least they didn't have to hear about Lily Evans anymore. Sirius's summer had been awful and quite boring which ended up in him looking more tired and ragged than normal. His long black hair still sat neatly onto his shoulders and was still incredibly curly. He kept glancing at Remus, which had become his favorite pastime for him. James had looked at him knowingly ever once and while, but Sirius refused to admit anything. Yet.
James Potter was playing a game of exploding snap with Peter, who wasn't winning. James had been awfully full of himself the entire trip in which he was quite proud of. His constant rambling about who he liked was now his new favorite thing to do which his friends hated. As he was beating Peter in their game, James was thinking about all the new ways he could prank the Slytherins this year and all the ways he could talk to his new crush. He had many ways to do both having years of so-called "experience."
Peter Pettigrew was eating Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans, clearly ignoring everything around him. He looked funny, being focused on a game he was clearly losing. He didn't seem to mind though because he hadn't gotten mad or yelled at all the entire time. About halfway through a game, Peter quickly offered a bean to James, who took it, only to realize Peter had given him a bad one. Peter was quite proud that his hidden talent was telling the difference between the beans. He loved giving everyone the bad ones.
As they neared the station, Sirius quickly got up to wake Remus up. "Wish me luck guys. Or not." He rolled his eyes as the two boys on the floor ignored him, which they probably did on purpose. Sirius sat by Remus and edged toward him, clearly not trying to get killed by an angry Remus. After a few moments at just staring at Remus, which Sirius had found himself doing more often lately, Sirius nudged Remus. "C'mon Moony, get up." Remus didn't stir or move for that matter. Sirius nudged him more aggressively this time in which Remus did stir. "What the fuck, I'm just trying to sleep here...." Sirius nudged Remus again which was a terrible plan because Remus whipped around and nearly hit Sirius. "And what in fucking Merlin's name did you wake me up for now?" Sirius grinned like he wasn't about to get killed by an angry Remus right now. "We're almost at the train station. Thought I'd wake up sleeping beauty." James and Peter finally looked up at the two, looking from one to the other. James looked like he got a stupid idea in his head, but decided not to share it with the rest of them. Remus had slightly calmed down, sighing and resting his head back on the window. "Mmm, fine." Remus mumbled, trying to fall asleep again. Much to his dismay, the train screeched to a halt and almost threw them all forward. "Guess we're here!" James called out cheerfully to the rest of them. Nobody answered back.
Once the group had gotten all their bags out of the train, they started walking toward the carriages to get them to the castle. Remus was still tired but seemed to be in a better mood nonetheless. As they all talked to one another, Sirius couldn't help but notice how nice Remus looked, despite his hair being a mess. Just as Sirius was about to say something, anything, Lily Evans walked up.
Lily Evans, currently trying to talk to the Marauders. A good friend of Remus's, but not much of anyone else's friend. In the Marauders that is. James used to be madly in love with her, until he seemingly got a new crush over the summer. So for everyone, Lily walking with them is extremely awkward. Which of course, she doesn't seem to notice. She also doesn't seem to notice she ruined Sirius's sudden burst of random confidence to talk to Remus.
So it was the start of their sixth year, already uncomfortable and full of unanswered questions.
