Amidst the lively marketplace, two individuals stood out, both dressed in military uniforms—one a Captain, the other a Major. They walked alongside each other, closely followed by a young girl. Her blonde hair was messy, her bright blue eyes sparkled in the light, but her face remained stoic like a sculpture. She wore a uniform similar to theirs, although more tattered.
"Hey Gilbert, are you thinking of buying something?" Captain Y/N said, addressing the Major.
Gilbert looked around the marketplace for anything that might pique his interest, finding nothing. He turned back to his friend. "No, what about you?" Gilbert replied.
The Captain thought for a moment, not for himself, though. 'Maybe something for my sister, a souvenir would be good. The war is turning in our favour, and some more books for Violet to help with her learning would do good,' he thought.
"I'll probably get something for my sister, and maybe some more books for Violet," he said, taking a moment to look around for something his sister might like.
"I think that's a good idea. How about you find a souvenir for your sister, and I'll look for something for Violet?" Gilbert suggested.
Both men turned around, looking for Violet. They found the young girl looking into a display table full of beautiful jewellery, although her gaze was fixed on a certain emerald brooch.
"What's the matter?" Gilbert said, his voice laced with a bit of concern. It was their first time seeing her so focused on something like jewellery.
"It's your eyes," her gaze remained fixed on the brooch. "It's the same colour as your eyes," Violet said before looking the Major in the eyes, causing his eyes to widen a bit. The Captain walked up to Violet, resting his hand on her left shoulder.
"The way I felt when I saw this... This feeling," her hand went up to her chest, lightly gripping her coat. "What is it called?"
—
She woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling, her arms feeling heavier than before. She lifted them out of the covers, finding them covered in bandages.
—
'Major Gilbert. I have been in the hospital for 120 days now. My strength has almost recovered. Movement is still a little difficult, but I can perform my duties. Please let me return to my post soon.' Violet's hand shook as she wrote out each letter onto the paper, gripping the pen like it was a knife. Suddenly, her pen fell out of her hand onto the ground. She bent down from her bed to grab the pen again.
—
'Her existence was hidden from everyone. However, people who knew about her said that she was a weapon.' A red-haired man walked along a dirt path, one hand holding his collar and the other his bag, his hair tied back and his beard stubble. 'She would fight if you ordered her to. She just looked like a human.' He arrived at a hospital and knocked on the door. It opened to a nurse who welcomed him in. 'She was just a tool... without a heart.' He focused on a doll in the waiting room, lost in thought.
"Lieutenant Colonel Hodgins," the nurse said to the lieutenant, snapping him out of his thoughts. "This way, please."
"Huh? Oh, sorry," Hodgins replied sincerely.
*CRASH*
He quickly opened the door to find Violet on the floor, along with scattered paper, an ink pen, and a small wooden table. "Violet! Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he said, jogging up to Violet and helping her up.
