you couldn't stand neteyam. he was so rude, coming into your village and saying such mean things to you. you were beginning to wish that your father had never granted the sully family uturu (scantuary) in awa'atlu.

but then again, you had no direct issue with the family, just the eldest son.

it was infuriating how often he implied that you were a slut or a demanding and unhelpful brat.but to be honest, how could you really blame him for thinking that?

you knew most of your friends were interested in being more than friendly with you. and you'd be lying if you said that you hadn't entertained it to some extent. you liked the attention, compliments, and physical affection. and the funny thing is, you've only started craving it more often than usual since neteyam arrived on the reef with his family.

before the sully's arrival, you had maybe flirted and gotten physical with a handful of clan members over the past few years, whereas now you were needing attention from someone new every week. deep down, you knew it was purely a replacement for something you couldn't truly have.

you also knew that your attitude towards him wasn't helping his poor thoughts towards you either. however, the more he made these comments, the more it lit a flame within you, and you couldn't help but continue behaving the way you were, which only fuelled more comments from him until it ended up becoming a vicious, ongoing cycle.

it was all a game at this point, to see who could annoy or anger the other more. and it was a game that your competitive self wanted to win.

later that evening, after eclipse, the whole clan gathered for dinner. the hunting party had a great catch of fish today. the largest of the season, in fact, which was reason for a celebration to be held. there was music, dancing, laughter, and relaxation as the entire clan feasted. after everyone had finished their meal, many of the people remained on the beach around the blazing firepit to socialise and enjoy the rest of the warm evening.

you began approaching your father and brother, effectively interrupting the conversation he was having with toruk makto and his sons. "daddy?"

tonowari pulled his attention towards you, his gaze moving down to your pouted lips. you were after something. he quickly excused himself, pausing the current conversation. "yes, ma sum (my shell)?"

"yua has a new pearl necklace up for sale. it's so pretty and would match perfectly with my new pearl-embroidered top. i'd like it, please."

yua was the clan's jeweller, but it was a rarity that she crafted anything so beautiful. as soon as she showed you the delicate and intricate design, you wanted it. you simply had to have it. beautiful things made you feel beautiful, after all, and once you had your sights on something, you always got it.

neteyam refrained from rolling his eyes. were you seriously interrupting this conversation because you wanted new jewellery? you were so needy and materialistic. a spoiled brat. he hated it.

tonowari's expression remained firm on your face despite his softening eyes. you often wanted new things to wear, and it was something that he struggled to say no to after seeing how happy it made you. he was not one to deprive his eldest daughter of happiness, knowing that you would go after it yourself. the word "no" was not a word that you heard frequently.

"of course, what is she looking for in return?" your father breathed out.

"yua wants a bigger mauri pod for her workshop."

all of sully boys eyes widened as they tried to remain reactionless to the excessive demand. a whole new pod in return for a necklace you wanted? they had never heard of such a thing happening in the forest. lo'ak's jaw was practically gaping open, and he was wondering how you and tsireya could end up so differently, especially when he knew you two were both so close and she looked up to you a lot, much like he did with his own brother, although he would never admit it out loud.
