Riley's POV:
I wake up, taking a moment to gather my thoughts before starting the day. After a refreshing shower, I grab my milk and send a text to Lina, needing to have a crucial conversation.
Riley: "Hey, can we meet? We need to talk asap."
As I wait for her reply, I prepare my breakfast, the comforting aroma of toast filling the kitchen. Lina's response arrives swiftly, suggesting we meet at our favorite spot, Starbucks, at noon.
Lina: "Hey, yeah sure. Starbucks 12?"
Riley: "Yeah, I'll be there in a sec."
Lina and Callob's bond remains strong, despite everything that has happened. It's a reality that has become increasingly difficult for me to comprehend. My mother's misguided belief in Callob's version of events strained our relationship. Today, however, marks a turning point as I've decided to put an end to our friendship for my own well-being.
Riley: "Mom, I'm going to meet up with Lina. Is that okay?"
Mom: "Of course, honey. Just make sure you don't stay out too long. Call me when you arrive and when you're leaving, please."
Riley: "Sure thing, Mom."
With those words, I grab my bicycle and head towards Starbucks. As I arrive, I spot Lina engrossed in her phone, likely talking to Callob. Yet, as she catches sight of me, she puts her phone down and greets me with a warm hug, as if nothing has changed.
Lina: "Hey, wifey! Why did you wanna..."
Riley: "Our friendship is over, Lina. A year and a half of building a bond, only for you to discard it once you met Callob. I wish you both the best. Goodbye."
The words hang heavy in the air, our connection severed by the toxic influence of Callob. It's a painful realization to accept, but I refuse to subject myself to further hurt and disappointment. With a heavy heart, I turn away, leaving behind a chapter of my life that no longer serves me.
As I step outside of Starbucks, my heart still heavy with the weight of recent events, I feel an overwhelming need to talk to someone who understands. Without hesitation, I pull out my phone and dial Leo's number, hoping that he's available to lend an ear.
The phone rings a few times, and I anxiously await his response. Finally, his warm voice greets me on the other end.
Leo: "Hey, Rils! How are you doing?"
Riley: "Leo, I... I need to talk. Can you meet me at Starbucks? It's important."
Leo's concern is evident in his voice as he quickly agrees to meet me. I give him the details, assuring him that I'll be waiting. Hanging up, I take a deep breath, finding solace in knowing that Leo is willing to be there for me, even in the midst of our fake relationship.
Minutes pass, each second feeling like an eternity, until I spot Leo walking towards me. A mixture of relief and nervousness washes over me as he joins me at the table.
Leo: "Rils, what's going on? You seemed really serious on the phone."
Riley: "Leo, I... I had a falling out with Lina. Our friendship is over, and it's been weighing on my heart. I just needed someone to talk to, someone who could understand."
Leo's expression softens as he reaches across the table, his hand gently resting on mine.
Leo: "I'm so sorry, Rils. That must be really tough for you. I may not fully understand the intricacies of your relationship with Lina, but I'm here to listen, to offer support in any way I can."
