Erwin gives me another careful inspection, then inspects Kacchan about 5 more times. After a billion questions I wasnt sure I even answered correctly, He decides that I mean no harm and that Kacchan Is mostly bark and no bite. Then he proceeds to walk along the wall, snapping orders at everyone. I quickly follow him.
"Er... Commander?" I call. He turns around and I can feel myself start to sweat underneath his gaze.
"Yes, Izuku?" He answers.
"I have a few questions. I-if that's okay sir!" For some reason, I feel even more nervous when he doesn't use my surname.
"You can lighten up kid. I won't hurt you. You've proven trustworthy."
"Oh... okay." that doesn't quite ease my mind, but I have a feeling I can trust this man. Despite his commanding demeanor, I could tell he was well-respected by all of his men. "So these her-men!" I correct myself quickly. We weren't in Musutafu, so I couldn't refer to things like I used to or people would get confused.
He nods at me to continue.
"Mikasa mentioned you commanded the 'Survey Corps'. What is that exactly?" he stops, nods to a man, and then looks out over the wall at a large stretch of land that seems to go on forever.
"See all this?" He gestures. I nod. "This is Titan territory." now that he mentions it, I can see a few Titans out in the distance.
"All of it?"
"Most of it. There are a few villages out there, but most of the ones we visit have already been raided by the Titans. See, that's our job. I take my men out into Titans' territory and other hostile environments to see if there is anything, or anywhere we can use to expand our population."
"You... go out there? With all the Titans?" I shudder slightly.
"Yes. It's fairly dangerous, but we are needed. The people look up to us." he explains.
"So these men," I gesture at everyone on the wall. "They are all risking their lives out there?"
"Not these men, no. They are part of the Garrison unit. They take wall patrol and maintain it. They are usually the first to act on days like these when titans break in."
"So then, who is killing the Titans now?"
"Some of my best men, and a couple from the Military Police Brigade probably. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of your friends were helping right now too."
"The Military Police Brigade. Is that another branch of the corps?"
"Yes. They mainly fight when the king is in danger and keep order within the walls." he turns cold. "Most of them have never even seen a Titan up close, much less fought one. Bunch of stupid drunks who think they can do whatever they want because they serve the king."
"Are they really the best ones for this job then?"
"Darius Zackly-he's the General-wouldn't put anybody in who wasnt fit to fight. He's strict but wants the best for humanity."
"So we are safe?" my voice comes out sounding foreign. I was never one to worry about things that were dangerous. I usually jumped right into danger if it meant saving my friends and innocent people. So why was I so scared now?
"Not yet. Not until all the people are safe and the Titans are killed or sealed back out in their territory. Ah, Eren." He smiles slightly as the same black-haired boy from earlier comes running back up to us. "Perfect timing. Izuku, meet Eren Yeager." He sticks out a hand to the boy. He looked about my age. He dips his head in greeting.
"Nice to meet you." then he turns his full attention to the commander. I take time to look him over. He's tall, fairly skinny but toned, wearing the same uniform as everyone else. A white shirt and pants with dark brown leather belts strapped across his body, paired with a tan jacket with patches on the shoulders and back. Stretching from hip to mid-thigh, was the gear Mikasa was flying around with.
The only thing different about the outfits was that his patches had a set of wings on them. Almost like Angel wins. Mikasa and Commander Erwin had them too, but almost everyone else on the wall had roses on their patches.
"Sir we have gathered all of them. I think. There's 18 of them." Eren informs. The Commander turns to me.
"There are twenty of you in total?" I know he is trying to confirm to make sure he has everyone.
"Yes sir. That is the entire class." They were all here? It wasnt just a few of us? How did ALL of us get here?
"Eren, bring Izuku and Katsuki down with the rest of them, have Izuku identify everyone and tell you if anybody is particularly dangerous." Erwin orders.
"Yes sir. What will Katsuki do?" Eren asks.
"Probably argue and yell at you," he answers, spot on. "Just ignore it. He's otherwise harmless." I bite my lip, trying to hold back laughter. If Kacchan heard this he would LITERALLY explode. Erwin starts to walk away again.
"Oh, sir!" I call after him again. He stops and looks over his shoulder. "My class has been trained by the best sir. Back in our city, we learned how to fight in close combat and with our quirks. We also are trained in battle strategy. If you need help from us, just let us know." He smiles and nods at me, then keeps walking.
Eren and I find Kacchan, who is yelling at a few of the Garrison men.
"Katsuki!" Eren yells over him. He stops and turns slowly to look at him.
"What did you call me punk?" He asks.
"Enough of this crap." Eren looks more fed up than anything. "Come with us."
"Don't tell me what to do tights boy!" Bakugo scowls, probably giving Eren that nickname because of the white skin-tight pants he was wearing. Eren scowls back.
"Well looks like I am, Hot head. Lets. GO!"
"Ha! Like hell im following you two extras. I'll go where I want to!"
"Fine!"
"FINE!"
Eren storms off, me at his heels. Then he looks over his shoulder and smirks. I look back and see Bakugo following us, hands shoved in his pockets, glancing off over the wall.
"Watch this," Eren says to me, chuckling. "Stop following me extra!" He yells at Kacchan, to which he stands up straighter, looks at, then scoffs.
"Im not following you dweebs. Im going somewhere different than you guys." He lies. Eren smiles and then winks at me.
"Alright. Catch on the flip side then!" he then salutes Kacchan and steps off the wall. I watch over the side as his wires shoot out and he runs down the wall. I look back at the angry boy and see him standing there shocked.
"Uhm. what he said!" I murmur, activating my quirk and pushing off the wall, following Eren, who is now running partially horizontally on the wall.
Halfway down, I push off, creating more craters, and hover in mid-air, before freefalling horizontally towards a rooftop. When I land, I quickly recover and follow Eren (who is gaping at me) farther down the wall. Finally, I can see my friends. I run a little faster towards them, happy to see all of them, safe. Everyone but Mineta who is ogling a poor girl just trying to eat.
"You're very pretty." He lisps to her, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Mineta, just stop." I hear Uraraka sigh.
"Im allowed to Athmire girlths!" He defends.
"Not when it gets creepy," Mina adds. "Which is now."
"You guyths are no fun! Take a Joke."
My heart swells like a water balloon threatening to pop. Maybe I was glad that Mineta was safe too.
