Lyra's POV
I slouch at my desk at the back of the classroom with headphones in my ears listerning to sleeping with sirens.
"Lyra! can you please pay attention to the class." Shouted miss Baker
"Sorry miss, I... I..." I said starting to stammer
"Don't do it again ok?" Miss Baker said shaking her head.
I heard the rest of the class sniggering at me, whispering things about me behind my back. It doesn't bother me anymore. I'm use to it now. I know its not a good thing to get use to but I have no choice really. No ones cares about how I feel or what I do."I'm home." I shout not anticipating an answer back
"Ok then." I whispered to myself
No one is ever home when I come back from school. Mum's normally with her new boyfriend Dave and Dad is out drinking with his friends. The only person I can rely on is my little sister Alix. She's 11 and has no one except me who cares about her.
"Alix I'm home." I say as I hear thundering footsteps coming down the stairs.
"Lyra! I'm sorry I didn't come down when you called, I was afraid that you were Dave." She said relived that I was home.
"Don't worry, I'm home now. How was your day at school?" I said as she kept into my arms, squeezing me, happy that I was home.
"It was ok I guess." She said as her long dark brown hair covered the side of her face.
"What's that?" I say starring at a purple bruise at the side of her eye.
"Nothing. I fell over at lunch and bumped my head." she said trying to cover up the lie that she just told me.
"Hmmm. You can tell me anything. Was it those people who slappped you in the face last week?" I say looking at Alix straight in the eye.
"Yes." she said innocently
"Don't worry I'm here now. Its getting late it time for you to get to bed." I said yawning
"Ok lyra. Love you." she said running up the stairs
"Love you too." I said with I smile on my face×××××××××××××××××××××××××
