You know I never thought my life would end up this way, and by this way I mean so damn boring! I'm in senior year of high school and nothing exciting has happened! Honestly it's basically my fault but damn I thought it'd be more exciting. But like I said it's basically my own fault, I didn't even try to ask out a girl all 4 of these years and I'm friends with one of the prettiest girls in school. speaking of her here she is right now outside my classroom.

"Hey Y/N you ready for our last study session before our finals?"

This right here ladies and gentlemen is the one and only Mary Jane. She is my neighbor and we've been pretty close since she's moved in next door when high school started. Apparently my mom knew her Aunt so she came to visit the house. I had to tell her that my parents have been on back to back business trips and rarely come home but she still treated me well and introduced me to Mary Jane. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her to be honest, she was just so pretty I almost kept my jaw open in shock, after that we started going to school together and just started getting along. We had some things in common but what we related the most to was that we didn't really like our parents. I didn't like them because they were always gone and never truly around for me, it's a miracle I was able to stay alive by myself in this house. For MJ though (yes I call her MJ that's how close we are) her parents were around but not really good parents. she told me about how they fought all the time and she was always scared as a kid because she never knew if they were going to hurt each other or worse, hurt her as her dad was usually the one that made the fights more intense because of his substance problems. Eventually she heard her aunt was going to move away and as the only relative that MJ liked she decided to leave her parents and go with her, as far as MJ knows her parents left her childhood house and are now separated but she doesn't really care to keep up with them as they barely even contact her.

"You know I'm.. definitely not ready MJ, I don't like studying. I just let my brain do all the work and hope it listened during class. My grades may not be the best but without studying I think I've done a pretty good job!"

"Oh come on it's our last one anyways so lets get to your place and study" she playfully punches my shoulder

"Alright fine but you know I won't be paying attention"

So as far as you guys can tell right now me and MJ are pretty close and we even hang out or I guess in this case study in my place so why aren't we dating? Well actually it's not just my fault which is weird to say but hear me out.

So at one point I want to say around Sophomore year I decided to get all my courage and ask out MJ and I want to say it was my awkwardness that caused her to say no but it was actually deeper then that. She told me because of her parents she couldn't really handle a relationship and is terrified of commitment for the sole fact that she doesn't want to end up like them. Of course I understood and luckily we were still friends after that as you can tell but I definitely still have a crush on her and it doesn't help that she's always in my house making me feel anxious.

We arrive at my house and no reason to tell MJ to make herself comfortable because she's practically here all the time, I don't know how I've kept myself this calm with her here almost every day for 4 years but hey.

As I'm pouring some lemonade into cups the power suddenly goes out

"Huh that's weird it wasn't even cloudy today. I'll go check out the power you just sit tight MJ"
