that about cover it?

you couldn't stop your mind from being wholly consumed from the thought of miles. the stack of cash remained untouched atop your kitchen counter.

it was 4 am. you couldn't go to sleep. not that you tried.

you paced, unlocking your phone. miles g. morales. your old classmate, your old friend. your old boyfriend. you spent your childhood attending his parents' rooftop parties, summer afternoons on the basketball court just goofing off, late nights in middle school running around and watching him slap stickers on everything. high school was a dream. just two kids stupidly in love, making out in his car, him sneaking into your room late at night, and the deep conversations that made you feel like he was the only one that really knew you, and vice versa.

that was before his dad died. now, you didn't even recognize him anymore. he had grown. a lot.

you pulled up your text archives, scouring the many chats before your eyes finally landed on his. you opened it. your last conversation was four years ago.

i saw the news. miles, i am so sorry

not your fault

you frowned. a bit of embarrassment swirled in your stomach as your eyes were trained on the read. you sighed, tossing your phone onto the couch before crashing.

life goes on. the next week passed by, and it wasn't hard to forget about the weird 2am visit from your childhood best friend when faced with your final year of university courses day in and day out. summer was nearing, and that meant everything was picking up—clubs, finals, internships, and not to mention the rush for finding a job.

it was the last lecture of the day. you were this close to dozing off as your professor droned on and on about the structure of the finals, its weight, how many parts, and whatever else. nothing that interested you enough to stay awake.

your phone buzzed softly on your desk. your eyes languidly drifted to where it sat, flipping it over to reveal your boyfriend's contact name.

babe <3
four new messages

you sighed, thanking him for a worthy distraction to your professor's monotonous voice. you swiped up.

hey baby

we can watch a movie or eat out, whatever u want
