You sat there in disbelief when the voice proclaimed itself to be Darkiplier. Wasn't he just a fan creation after seeing some rather creepy thumbnails or screenshots from Markiplier? You still couldn't see anything but a dark space in the corner of the room where the voice originated from. A feeling of fear with a dash of curiosity overcame your mind and heart as you kept your eyes on the still shadow.

"Can you.. Show yourself?" You asked slowly and carefully.
There was silence. A pin drop could be heard due to being so quiet.
"I suppose so. Just.. Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you, (y/n)." Darkiplier replied slowly and carefully in his dark and mysterious tone of voice.

He then stepped out of the dark corner and into the moonlight which shone through the window nearby. The figure looked like Mark, except for a few minor details; He was clean shaven, his hair was jet black and slightly messy, he was certainly more pale and a little more muscular than Mark, and his eyes were pitch black. Darkiplier didn't meet your eyes, he almost looked.. Ashamed.

"And now you know how I appear to be. I am a monster. I wasn't meant to exist." He mumbled under his breath, but was just loud enough for you to hear. You slowly got out of the bed and cautiously approached him.
"I'm not scared of you. You certainly don't look like a monster to me." You replied, now standing before Darkiplier. His eyes then slowly met yours before opening his mouth to speak, his brilliant white teeth gleaming.

"You don't understand. I'm not supposed to even be walking around! I'm just supposed to be another side of your dear friend, Mark." He said in a serious tone, his face like stone; a cold expression lying beneath it. Your right hand slowly went to his left cheek, which was on your right, to make sure that you weren't going crazy or in a dream. Darkiplier let you do this, in fact, he gently rested against your hand and let out a small, content sigh. You felt a smile start to form on your lips in response, happy that he didn't get upset with you.

'I wonder if he'd let anyone do this, or if it's because he trusts me.' You thought to yourself. A question started to arise in your thoughts, something that you didn't quite understand about this that you needed an answer to.
Your hand gently caressed his surprisingly soft cheek before asking, "So, if you're only supposed to be another, 'side' to Mark, how is it possible that you are walking around now and being an actual being with your own thoughts and actions?"

Dark contemplated this for a few moments, trying to piece the explanation together in his mind. He slowly put his hand on yours and gently grasped it, holding it in his own as he removed it from his cheek. Even when he did so, he kept holding your hand and looked into your bright, curious (e/c) eyes.

"This is going to sound strange and I was hoping to wait to explain this to you, but you asked. Are you ready to hear it?" He asked, keeping his pitch black eyes focused on the color of your own. 'Beautiful eyes..' Dark thought to himself.
You nodded. "I am." You confidently answered, looking back into his eyes. 'So mysterious. They say that the eyes are the gateway to one's soul. I want to know what lies behind the darkness in his.' You thought to yourself.

Darkiplier took in a breath and exhaled slowly before explaining, "Once an alter ego of someone finds something to live for, they become their own independent body."
You held onto every one of his words, hopelessly trying to make sense of this new information.
"So, what is your reason to live?" You asked.
He didn't answer for a few moments, then slowly leaned in; brushing past your lips to find your ear. His cold breath traveled down your ear and down your neck, causing you to shiver lightly.

"You are, (y/n)." Dark simply whispered into your ear. And with that, he let go of your hand and slowly pulled away, walking out of the bedroom and closing the door behind himself.

You were speechless. No words could describe how this made you feel at this precise moment. You slowly stepped backwards until you could feel the bed pressing against your calves. Your body just sluggishly sat upon the sheets and laid down. Your legs hung off the edge of the bed as you pondered and pondered for what seemed to be an eternity. Before you knew it, your eyelids fluttered shut and you had fallen asleep; dreaming of the one mystery that you needed to solve, the man of shadows. Darkiplier.
