Nico didn't join us for our conversation in the botanical garden just outside the hospital. It was only Tyler and me, seated on a wooden bench, gazing at a beautiful patch of sunflowers and pine trees lining the walking path. When I gazed up at the sky, it seemed as though there were a million stars, creating a breathtaking sight. All at once, a rush of emotions washed over me, causing my heart to ache. Why was I feeling this way? I began to question myself as memories from my past resurfaced - the days when I used to watch Nico from a distance. It was as if an invisible force surrounded me, like the angel and devil on my shoulder were battling to guide me. Did I have feelings for Nico too? Was I making the right choice? Did I truly have feelings for Tyler? A multitude of questions flooded my mind.
Just as I turned to face Tyler, he was smiling, leaning back with his hands on the bench and legs crossed, gazing up at the sky. He closed his eyes briefly and then let out a contented sigh, a playful grin on his face. Bringing his hands to his lap, still wearing that same grin, he turned to look at me and suddenly burst into laughter, lightly flicking my forehead.
"Ow! Hey! That hurts! And why on earth did you do that?!" I exclaimed in annoyance, rubbing my forehead.
"That's for being such a clueless chipmunk! I know you don't really have feelings for me," he chuckled and reclined on the bench, arms crossed over his chest.
"Wait, what?!" I exclaimed in complete shock. "No, I-" he suddenly interrupted me.
"Don't say anything more, Kei. I know you too well. Stop deceiving yourself, especially," he paused, offering a genuine smile as he pointed at my chest where my heart was, and continued, "don't deceive that. The way you gaze at me and the way you look at Nico are worlds apart. You love him, but you're tangled in confusion, trying to determine if you truly have feelings for me or him. But the reality is, your heart belongs to Nico, not me," he replied with such clarity that I was taken aback.
"But why did you both look so angry and ready to start World War III back there? You and Nico seemed like you were on the verge of a major showdown," I asked, still shocked, my gaze fixed on Tyler.
Tyler burst into laughter, slowly calming down to speak. "I was frustrated with Nico because that guy didn't have the guts to confess his true feelings to you. I wanted him to admit it before I arrived so we could celebrate your birthday together. It seems like both of you are equally clueless!" He continued to laugh heartily.
My face turned beet red, and I blushed intensely. However, Tyler's excessive laughter started to irritate me. "Shut up! I can't stand you right now! Stop laughing!" I punched his arm with considerable force.
