Consequences and Confinement

My name is Chad. When I was 13 years old, I decided to start my own YouTube and Twitch channel. I wanted to create a gaming channel to earn some money, since my allowance was only $10 per week, which made it difficult to buy things like Pokémon cards or video games. I had asked my parents for a raise, but they insisted that $10 was sufficient.

My parents didn't really understand modern technology, and I often had to explain to my mom that I couldn't pause an online video game. Despite my explanations, she would sometimes turn off my console or TV, which I knew could damage them.

One day, while streaming a game of Fortnite, my mom came into my room and told me it was dinner time. I asked her to allow me a few more minutes to finish the round or die in the game. Instead of waiting, she turned off my PlayStation 5 at the wall socket. When I tried to turn it back on, it was broken. Furious, I shouted, "You are fucking dumb bitch, you've broken my console."

My parents were not happy with my outburst. As punishment, they grounded me for the rest of the summer and banned me from using any electronics, including TVs, consoles, tablets, and cell phones they took the smaller stuff and put in my dad's safe.

This created issues, one day I came home from school to find the door locked and my parents not home. I had to sit on the front porch during the cold rain until they came home. They didn't even apologise for not being home.

Whenever I entered the living room, my parents would turn off the television, so I grabbed a book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," and sat down to read, partly to irritate them. I was confined to my bedroom, the bathroom, and the dining room during meal times only.

My parents then arranged for us to start seeing a family therapist. Unsurprisingly, the therapist seemed biased, always siding with my parents, even though my mom had destroyed my PlayStation 5. Her partiality was expected, considering my parents were paying for the sessions. If she didn't side with them, they could simply stop attending, and she would lose their business.
