Adira placed her hands behind her back, trying her best to calm herself down, she was panicking, her breathing increasing rapidly with every step she took. How did she get here, this far? Everything seemed surreal to her. She had practiced for this occasion several times. She could do this

"I can do this" she whispered, but then anybody could. Anybody could be chosen to represent their boss at a grand meeting with the CEO of an international automobile company, she was just lucky enough, she had planned that no questions would come from her, all she would do was sit and listen.

However, she believed fate had other plans for her when she realized she had come so early that she was placed to sit to the left of the head seat. Her breathing increased even more and this time she was unsuccessful in trying to calm herself. She had prayed this morning, that no evil befell her but looks like things were meant to be different.

"Calm down Di" she whispered to herself "Calm down" all to no avail. Her hands were sweating and things became even worse, when a woman stepped into the dimly lit room, dressed in a black pencil skirt, red button-up shirt, and black blazers that matched the skirts perfectly well, her hair packed in a low bun and a notebook held carefully in her hands. Adira looked at her outfit. She looked nothing like that, not even close.

She had put on a black turtle neck and tucked it in her white palazzo trousers, coupling it with her black flats. Whereas, the other girl looked like she was meant to be here, she looked like she wasn't, maybe because she wasn't, her boss was. Why had she said yes to this, if she hadn't, she'd have been at her office, comfortably sipping hot tea

"Calm the fuck down" she whispered to herself, a bit louder this time and it worked, she was a bit calmer, but her hands were still wet from sweat.

"Hi," the girl from earlier said to her. She had now taken the seat before Adira and Adira never noticed because she was too busy panicking to do so.

"Hi" she smiled back, turning her head away immediately to make no room for more conversation, but unfortunately the girl continued to speak.

"I'm Lucy" she smiled, exposing a rather perfect set of teeth. Could this girl be any more perfect, Adira thought, her makeup was so light but managed to enhance her features so perfectly. And her scent of lavender and lemon-flavored detergent filled the large room. Was it hatred, envy, or insecurity, Adira couldn't tell but she was sure it couldn't be hate, after all, she was a girls girl.

"Adira Jacobs" she smiled warmly at her. Having the courage to speak again as Lucy kept smiling, she asked "What company do you represent?"

"Brews limited, I work as the personal assistant" Lucy blushed and Adira could tell that the girl had been recently employed. She was familiar with that company and had encountered the personal assistant once or twice, thus, this girl was new

"That's fine" She smiled and looked away, not wanting to introduce her company to Lucy. It was such a small one, anyway and she was beyond embarrassed of it. Asides from the low pay, the fact that the toilet had no stalls and desperately needed proper repairs was another reason, but who was she to ruin her company's name? She was just an employee with the same pay grade for over two years.

That was why she had immediately taken this offer, perhaps it was her way to a better future. Eventually, the room was filled with people, and as they increased, so did the whispers but Adira focused on her phone, re-reading her reminders, for no reason other than the fact that it was enough distraction.

To the left of her was an elderly man she could hold no conversations with and to the right of Lucy, a girl around her age, almost as pretty as Lucy was. How could this girl be so perfect and lucky?
