(AN: Mikhail is 17 in this chapter and so on)
I look up from my seat on the couch, my aunt standing in front of me, a letter in hand. "It's addressed to you Mikhail," she smiles, "take it and open it."
I take hold of the envelope and hold it close. I don't have that many people close to me, I don't really talk to anyone at school. Just who could have sent this?
I slowly open the envelope, biting my lower lip as I unfold the paper inside.
"VICTOR MIKHAIL-SAMA"
"YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR A SPECIAL PLAYER TRAINING PROGRAM"
I read through it, eyes widening as I looked back up at my aunt. "It's an invitation... from the Japanese football association."
Her eyes widened, and suddenly the large eyebags on her face disappeared, a large smile growing on her face as she squealed in excitement. "What a great birthday present! You should go for it!"
"Auntie, my birthday was a week ago..." I chuckle, a small smile on my face. It's rare to see her so happy. Especially after she got fired two weeks ago, and had less money coming in. That makes me slightly nervous because if I go through with this invitation and leave her, there won't be much for me to do. The thought of my aunt struggling more because I'm not able to help in any way makes me feel sick.
"I know that face... no more of that!" She grabs my face, squishing and pulling at my cheeks as I make a noise of complaint. "You must go there! It's your passion isn't it, you like playing soccer and you want to get better, don't you?"
"Yes, I do want to get better, but- "she places her palm on my forehead, pushing it back to stop me from talking. "Not another word Mikhail, do it. For me, and your father."
I close my eyes before nodding. I'll do it, for a better future.
The next day, I stood in front of a tall building. Letter and phone in hand, earbud in one ear, I pause my music. A knot built in my stomach and throat as I second guess my decision on agreeing with my aunt's wants. I didn't like the feeling of leaving her, but I did something to please and ease her.
I start walking to enter the building before I hear someone start to talk behind me.
"Huh? Aren't you Ichinan's Isagi-kun?"
I turned around to see two boys. Popular soccer player Ryosuke Kira and a cute boy with very pretty, blue eyes. I didn't say anything as they hadn't spoken to me or even looked at me at that matter.
The boy makes a sound of surprise, being called out by Ryosuke. "Right? So, you got called here, too!"
He gleams as he makes a thumbs up and smirks at the boy. "Thanks for the match the other day! You know me, right?" Ryosuke asks, a smirk on his face.
I sighed, I didn't want to be an ass and listen to their conversation since it didn't have anything to do with me. I turned back around and opened the door to enter the facility, leaving the conversating that the two were having behind me and turning it into white noise.
I adjusted my bag and walked inside, where soccer will become my future.
