Prologue

"She needs to learn to protect herself. I will only leave if you can promise me that she will be able to do that," he pressed the matter to her.

"I'm not sure if she will able to protect from what you think might happen even if she tried."

He began pacing back and forth. He didn't what he could do; he never meant for any of these. "She won't be safe with me around is she?"

She didn't want to say but she had thought of it and she could tell from that he did too and he already made his decision. It would break her heart if he left them. "You can't just undue it. It isn't your fault."   "But she will have a better chance if she doesn't know."

"She doesn't need to know." She saw that he didn't believe her. "She doesn't need to know everything."

"But she can't do that with me around."

"It might not even happen. I don't understand why you are thinking so negative!" Marilyn Hansen's voice became more urgent. "We can think of something else."

"Are you going to even risk it? Are you going to put both of you in danger because of me?" She began to see that she was getting through to him. He was doubting himself.

"Yes. As long as we are with you everything will be perfectly fine. We are going to be okay. We will be a family."
