Prologue: Betrayal
Thinking back on my life, it's been nothing but perfect. Since I was born, I haven't had any blood related family, but after miraculously finding myself in a beautiful village when I was two years old, I was practically raised by all of the residents in the village. By the time I was 6 years old, I had already learned carpentry and started to build a small hut underneath a giant willow tree with some of the village elders. When I turned 14, I traveled to a neighboring village to start high school. That's where I met my boyfriend, Kaleb and best friend, Kiki. For years, our relationships together seemed perfect. I had built my dream home in the perfect location near my home village, and was absolutely loving life.
On my 22nd birthday, I decided to go to my boyfriends home to celebrate with him. However, when I got to his house, I saw Kiki's car in the driveway. When I looked inside her car, I could see a receipt showing the purchasing of condoms. Of course, I wasn't suspicious because she could have bought them for herself for another time.
I took out the keys to my boyfriends house and unlocked the door. As I turned the knob, any noise that I could've heard inside completely went away. The deathly silence made my heart pound as I shook away any suspicions I had of him cheating on me.
"Kyle?" I call out his name, but there was no response.
"Kiki?" I call out the name of my best friend but there was still only silence.
Soon, I heard some rustling in his bedroom and decided to go in there. When I opened the door, my heart dropped as I saw Kyle and Kiki together on his bed, naked, with used condoms littered around the room.
"(Y/n)? OMG, (y/n), this isn't what it looks like..." Kiki explains frantically. Everything started to make sense, why they spent so much time together, and everything else.
"H-how long has this been going on?" I manage to squeak out a question at the two.
"That's none of your business, (y/n). You know what, why don't you just leave?" Kyle says aggressively.
"Since we were 18..." Kiki says, absolutely breaking my heart.
"You... but why? I don't understand?" I try to hold back tears.
"I never liked you, (y/n), you were just so clingy and I felt bad for you." Kyle says.
"Then, I guess we should break up..." I say before walking out of the room, closing the door, and running back to my home.
My home was cozy and beautiful, but right now, it was hard to see the beauty in anything right now. My boyfriend and best friend of 8 years have been sleeping together for four years. How could I have been so naïve? After crying for hours, I decide I should do something. Wasting my 22nd birthday crying over people who just felt pity for me isn't going to do anything. I clean myself up, put on my best outfit and do my makeup before heading out to a bar.
"Hopefully, this will help me feel better." I say to myself before heading into the bar.
"I'll take your strongest drink." I say to the bartender before sitting down next to a short man that I had never seen before.
"Day bad?" The man asks me.
"Yeah..." I say. I don't speak any more until I get flat out drunk.
"I..I just I don't understand!" I start sobbing and venting to the bartender and the stranger. The stranger doesn't say much, he mostly just listens.
The night was dark, and me, being a drunk girl, should not have walked home alone. I may have been drunk but I wasn't stupid enough to do that. What I was stupid enough to do was ask the stranger to take me home...
