"He's that Good?"

The next day, I noticed that I shared a class with Adam. History to be specific.

I took a seat in the back of the class like always when I saw Adam walk in. We made eye contact and he visibly sighed at me, almost like a, "you've got to be kidding me" type of sigh.

He sat in the front of the class with exactly five rows between us. I couldn't believe him. We were on the same hockey team for crying out loud. I hadn't said more than a sentence to him and he already hated me?

Normally, I wouldn't let this bother me this much, but all I wanted in this school was to be apart of a real hockey team. I wanted to be able to rely on my teammates as if they were my family. Adam was making this very difficult.

When class ended and kids started leaving the class, I quickly caught up with Adam as he walked out. "What's your problem, dude?" I asked, standing side by side with him in the hallway.

Adam stopped and faced me in the middle of the hallway as people rushed on both sides of us to get to their classes.

I spoke before he could say anything, "What's the reason for all these dirty looks?" I started up a rant, "I'm sorry that me joining the hockey team is such an inconvenience for you. You know, I've been told that you're really nice but your attitude is telling me otherwise." I argued.

Adam gave me yet another dirty look, "Oh, shut up. Stop making this about you." He said before walking away.

I scoffed, "You don't even know me!" I shouted at him as he kept walking, unbothered. "Jerk!"

During Lunch

I sat with Julie and Connie at lunch, as well as a few other hockey players who I was unfamiliar with.

Goldberg, who id remembered from last practice, had joined us at the table with a tray of every dessert possible in the school. "Hey, Julie. Just wanted to congratulate you on being number one." He said, offering the tray to Julie.

"I didn't have time to bake a cake so I brought you a yummy array of goodies." Goldberg admitted. How sweet of him.

Julie smiled, "Thanks, Goldberg."

"No problem. You know, you're gonna need a lot of energy to play on this level." Goldberg stated. He picked up what looked like a donut, "See this thing right here, it's packed with energy. Give it a shot." He said, handing it to Julie.

"That's good." She said after taking a bite.

"You know, I could even be your nutritional advisor. No charge." Goldberg offered while Julie nodded her head.

She started to dig into the desserts and I wondered how this was possibly going to energize her.

As we were eating, Charlie and two other boys walked past the varsity hockey table across the room, but were abruptly stopped when their lunch was snatched from them.

The varsity player opened the brown lunch bag and pulled something out, it looked like a brownie from this distance. He smelt it and gave his friend a confused look.

Just then, Charlie made a run for it, laughing. After that, chased the whole varsity team hockey, the cheerleaders, and suddenly my table.

After School
———————————————————————————-

Hockey practice, just as yesterdays, was full of conditioning. Just as I had imagined, the desserts Julie ate weren't such a fantastic idea because she stopped multiple times to vomit.

I noticed at this practice that Adam was no where to be seen. He must've already switched schedules to be at varsity's practices and games.

Nobody seemed to really have a problem with this except for Charlie and Adam himself.

I had overheard multiple times on the ice about how I took Adams spot on jv. Apparently the team was full before I joined and someone had to move to varsity.

Now I'd understood why Adam gave me such dirty looks. Im the reason why he wasn't with the Ducks anymore.

After practice, we made our way back to the locker room. To our surprise, our clothes had been stolen by varsity.

"In here, guys!" Someone shouted. We all made our way over to the showers which held our soaked clothes. Just great.

I quickly picked out my clothes and set them aside before heading out to catch my uncle before he leaves.

I found him taking his skates off to the side of the rink. "Hi." I called out to him as I walked over.

My uncle looked in my direction, "Sofia, shouldn't you be in the locker room?" He asked.

I sat down beside him, "Well, the varsity team tossed all of our clothes in the showers so I'm waiting it out." I explained. "I just have a question."

"Shoot." My uncle said.

I hesitated, "I heard that I was the reason why Adam Banks was separated from the rest of the team. You know, that he would've stayed on jv if I hadn't come. Is that true?" I asked.

He sighed, "These kids just start blaming others for their problems. I personally don't see the problem, id rather be on varsity as a freshman than jv." He stated.

I looked down at my shoes, "You think Adam earned his spot on varsity? He's that good?" I wondered.

My uncle stood up, "He's better than good. Don't tell him I said that." He admitted.

I stood up, "I won't. He's not even talking to me. Not that I want him to talk to me." I awkwardly smiled.

"Good. He'll realize soon why I put him on varsity." My uncle hesitated, "How's your mom?" He added.

"Uhm.. I actually don't know. I haven't called her yet, too busy with school." I admitted.

He raised an eyebrow, "You should call her."

"I know. I will." I said, but I just couldn't. Calling her made everything feel to real. We'd have to talk about the situation back in California and I just couldn't do that yet.

"Alright. Go get back to the locker room before varsity gets here." He said, motioning back to the locker room.

I walked off to the locker room before grabbing my still soaking wet clothes and going back to my dorm.
