Hi, I'm Eliza. I am a young adult who is in her second year of university right now. Many people are proud of what I am doing with my life. I am perusing a career in creative writing and I also have a wonderful boyfriend of a year and a half. I have already published a book and got great reviews back. I have made the dean's list more than once and I have a full ride to The Ohio State University. I have good relations with my family and I have a good paying job. I have never had a sexual encounter and I never drank alcohol. You might say this is a good life to live by. You might say that I am the perfect example of the perfect daughter. You may think I am the perfect example of a "scrub". Well, I'm here to tell you to not judge a book by its cover. Hi, my name is Eliza and I killed the love of my life.
You might be wondering why I killed him. Well I guess I should start from the beginning shouldn't I. Well, Ashton and I met in one of our general education classes. Those stupid classes everyone has to take because college likes to take our money from us. Anyways, it was in our Intro to Speech class when we met. On the first day of class, we had to give an introductory speech. You could say it was like a pop quiz.
"Alright class. I know this is your first day and all but I need to see what level of Public Speaking you are all on. So today, during this hour, we are all going to do an Introductory Speech. This is when you all, one at a time, stand in front of the class and tell us your name, major, city and why you decided to come to The Ohio State University. Now, who would like to go first?" Dr. Albert, a talk slinky old man looked around the room. No one raised their hands. "Well, since no one will volunteer to go first, I'll volunteer one of you myself. Let's see. How about Aston Daniels."
I was so relieved when I found out my name wasn't called. The rest of the class let out a sigh of relief as well, except for this Ashton guy. I look around the room to see him stand up. My jaw slightly dropped when I saw him. He had light brown hair, a slight beard to match it. His eyes were a deep brown, almost like a chocolate wonder land. His smile was small, but cute. Almost like he was shy, but I didn't sense shyness coming from him. Weird. He was wearing an OSU shirt, which I mean we do attend this school, and black basketball shorts. His arms weren't huge but you could tell he worked out. When he walked up to the front of the class, he opened his mouth to introduce himself.
"Well, I'm very bad at these things, but I'm Ashton Daniels. I come from Cleveland, Ohio. I am here to study Computer Sciences and I love playing games. I came to The Ohio State because it was the only school I applied to. I know it was a game of chance, but I got in and I am happy."
Ashton finished up his speech with huge smile and a gaze towards me. Wait. Is he looking at me? No, he can be looking at me. I'm all the way in the back where no one can see me. Maybe it's to the pretty girl in front of me. Yep that's it.
"Thank you Mister Daniels. Next up is Eliza Young" Shit.
I stand up and straighten up my blue shirt and ripped jeans. I look down to my black converse to make sure I don't trip over a loose shoe lace. Good, they are tied good and tight. I pull up my long brown hair into a bun and walk up to the front of the room. My heart is racing. This is why I don't want to be a teacher or anything that deals with being in front of a crowd. I hate speaking in front of people. I take a deep breath and turn around to see all twenty some people in this classroom. I was not ready.
"Hello. Umm...my name is Eliza Young. I am a creative writing major. I love reading books and writing little squeals to my favorite books. I come from a small town called Huber Heights, Ohio. The reason why I am here is because I scored high enough on my SAT to get a full ride scholarship here. I am actually really shy and I don't do much other than read and write. So, yeah." I end my speech with a blush and a shy smile. I look around the room and see that Ashton guy smiling at me. Why?
"Thank you Miss Young. Please take a seat. Next we have..." We finished the class a bit early. Before we left, Dr. Albert gave us all a partner and a type of speech to research. Our partners were to be our partners for the rest of the semester. I happened to be paired with Ashton. Out of everyone in the room, I was paired with this beautiful creation. Wait. Eliza what are you talking about? You haven't even met this guy yet. You only know his name.
I try to leave the room to go get lunch but I was stopped by a strong grasp. It was Ashton. Why did he stop me though?
"Hey. I'm Ashton. You're Eliza right? I actually like that name a lot. Are you busy right now? I don't have class for another three hours."
This Ashton character is really good looking. And he pretty much asked me out. This sounds like something that I would write about in a crappy little short story I would write just to get it down on a piece of paper. But it's happening in real life. Why is it happening to me? Wait...I haven't given this guy an answer yet.
"Oh, umm, yeah no I don't have class for another three hours either. Yeah, my name is Eliza. So where do you want to go eat?"
"You choose. I'll pay today." He said with a smile. That smile with those eyes. I just melt. Shut up Eliza. You just met the guy.
"No. Don't worry about paying for me. I can pay for myself. Do you want to go to Mozart's? It's close by here"
"Sure, and today I am paying for our meals." So he is THAT type of guy. I think I can get along well with him. But I still want to pay for my own damn food.
That was the day that we first became friends. I will always remember that day. He was such a goober, and he always made me smile. But the voices in my head said otherwise.
A/N~ So this is my first story that I will actually make public. I had a few friends of mine read this and they told me I should upload it to a site like this so here it is. I hope you like it. I will upload chapter two soon. :)
