'𝓑e a good girl and study well, okay? I'll see you in June. Bye baby.' A women pressed a soft kiss to the forehead of a young girl. The girl, who was named Y/n Adeline Harding, aged 11, felt excitement and anxiety swirling inside her. 'God, I'll miss you so much!' Her mother cried slightly, hugging her.'I will mum. Goodbye' She smiled, pulling away from the hug. Her mother waved before disappearing in the crowd. As she pushed her cart, Y/n got a lot of weird looks. It was, however, understandable. It's not every day you see a young girl pushing a screeching owl around.
After a while, Y/n stood amidst the crowd, looking incredibly confused. She had walked around the station for about half an hour, and she still could not find the station marked "9 and 3/4". Seeing her confusion, a security guard walked over to her. 'Anything I can help you with Mam?' He asked with a thick accent. 'Oh! yes? Do you know where the station nine and three quarters is?' She asked uncertainly. The man laughed and walked away, muttering something about kids going mad these days.
Y/n sighed in defeat and was just about to go call to her mother when she heard a boy groan few steps away from her. 'Mum! Why do we have to be so early? the train leaves only at 11!' His mother looked at him in a calm but stern way. 'Yes darling. At Sharp 11. And there's only 10 more minutes till departure. We are not very early m'love' She explained. This just seemed to make the boy even more annoyed. 'I don't see the station nine and three quarters. How do we get there?' He asked his father.
At this, Y/n's eyes brightened. 9 and 3/4's? That's where she was going!
With slight difficulty, Y/n steered her cart towards the family. 'Uhm, hello. I heard you say, "nine and three quarters" That's where I need to go. Would you mind if I tagged along?' She asked quietly. The mother smiled lovingly at her. 'Oh, you poor dear. Are you a no-maj?' She asked kindly. Y/n nodded. 'Oh, of course you can tag along! Monty can take James and I'll take you. Okay now, James, move over to your father.' She directed her son. James gave Y/n a quick smile before walking into the wall with his father, then disappearing. Y/n's mouth fell open at this. 'Did they- just melt into the wall?' She asked the lady. 'Oh yes. Don't worry. It hardly hurts' The lady and Y/n then followed the footsteps of the father and son.
Y/n's eye's widened as she walked into another platform, filled with kids running into the train and parents waving goodbye. 'Oh dear! We're late! Off you go dear! you can go with James.' The lady pushed Y/n's cart forward towards where Monty was instructing his son on the do's and don'ts. He was hardly listening. 'James! Take- oh, my god! what's your name?' The lady asked, her face flushing. 'Oh, it's Y/n. Y/n Adeline Harding.' Y/n smiled politely. 'You can call me Effy. Any ways. James, take Y/n. Be nice to her. Off you go! Goodbye' She pressed a kiss to James's forehead and gave Y/n a loving pat before ushering them into the train. James waved back while Y/n waved slightly to the amazing people she just met.
'Come on! We'll get a cabin and I'll introduce myself.' The boy, whose name Y/n had heard to be James, took ahold of her hand and pulled her with him. They miraculously found an empty cabin despite being late. Laughter and shouting floated in from other cabins as James shut the sliding door behind him. 'I'm James Potter' He smiled as he sat across from her. After seeing his smile, Y/n decided that he had the most beautiful smile ever and that he was a troublemaker. His smile held innocence but it' was also mischievous. 'I'm Y/n. Nice to meet you, James.' She gave him her best smile. 'Likewise.' he nodded. The rest of the train ride was filled with talk about the magical world and Hogwarts.
Halfway through the trip, just after the lady with the trolley had left, in came a boy who had unruly, long-ish hair and a mischievous smile. 'Oh! hello! didn't know people were here!' He exclaimed as he sat next to Y/n. The girl was slightly shocked from this boy's sudden appearance but smiled, nonetheless. 'Hello! I'm Y/n.' She held out a hand. The boy shook it firmly. 'Sirius.' He flashed a grin. 'James!' The boy with the glasses pipped from the side, breaking Sirius's stare at Y/n.
'Nice to meet you!' Sirius exclaimed, shaking hands with James. The three of them enjoyed rest of the time, talking.
'Which house do you reckon you'll be in?' Sirius asked as they ate cauldron cakes. 'I hope Gryffindor!' James said while eating. 'Don't speak with your mouth full, James!' Y/n passed him a tissue. 'You sound like my mom.' He grumbled. 'Well, your mom's wonderful.' She smiled at him. 'I hope I'm in anything but Slytherin.' Sirius spoke. 'Well, yes. I agree' James nodded. 'I hope we three end up in Gryffindor. How cool would that be?' Y/n asked. James had explained about the Hogwarts houses a while earlier. Both the boys agreed.

Upon reaching, Y/n followed James, both of them followed by Sirius, to the waving giant. A huge man, towering over all the students, was shouting for the first years. 'Come on!' James led the trio. The three of them piled into a boat, followed by two other students. One was an awkward looking boy with glasses like James and the other was a timid looking blond. 'I'm Sirius. This is James and the girl next to him is Y/n.' Sirius introduced. The boys smiled. 'I'm Remus. This is Peter.' The boy in glasses said. James was just about to carry the conversation on when everyone gasped collectively. Hogwarts loomed in the mist like a monster. 'Woah...' Y/n trailed off. The boys around her nodded in agreement.
The boat docked and the kids climbed a set of stairs which led them to outside the main hall. There they met Professor McGonagal and were soon taken to the sorting.
Upon entering the great hall, Sirius whispered excitedly. 'Food!' Jamed agreed with him, the both of them eyeing the various dishes with hunger. Peter, Remus and Y/n laughed quietly at their friends.
'Black, Sirius!' McGonagal called after quiet a few names. Sirius walked up to the hat confidently and just as the fabric of it touched a strand of his hair, the enchanted hat screamed 'Gryffindor!'. There was a collective gasp before the said table went into cheers and welcomed Sirius like they were long lost friends.
Then after a while came Y/n's turn. 'Harding, Y/n!'. The hat sat on her head for a minute before shouting out 'Hufflepuff!' Y/n's face fell slightly before she stood up and hurried over to her house mates. The table welcomed her with open arms and a bunch of the older kids smiled at her, telling that she'd love this place. Y/n's eyes found her friends', who looked downcast at the fact that she went to Hufflepuff. Next came Remus and he was also given to Gryffindor. And so were the others.
'So, you're a no-maj?' A boy, who looked three or four years older to her asked. But Y/n was deaf to this as she was watching her first friends have fun at their table. 'yea...' Y/n muttered quietly as she ate her food. 'I'm Dorcas!' A girl suddenly quipped from beside Y/n. The girl turned her head to see a dark skinned, curly haired girl smile brightly at her. 'I'm Y/n.'

After dinner, the prefects led the first years back to the common room. Y/n was towards the front of the line when she was pulled out, no one really noticed. 'You're not in Gryffindor!' Sirius cried. Y/n dusted herself off as she glared playfully at him. 'I'm very aware of that, Sirius.' James and the others looked at her, sadly. 'Don't worry! Benny, a 5th year, says that I can visit your dorms whenever I want during my free time and that I'd probably have classes mainly with Gryffindor. So, we'll see each other a lot! Don't think you can get rid of me that easily.' Y/n waged a finger in front of them. 'I'd better go! bye guys!' Y/n waved to her friends and disappeared back into the long line of Hufflepuff's before her friends could even blink.
