Rise of the Turtles, Part 1(rewrite)

[The episode begins in New York City. The camera pans the skyline and through the city. As the camera moves into the sewers, we see four turtles training in a large dojo with a tree growing near its center.]

[Leonardo and Michelangelo face off.]
____
Leonardo "Yah!"
____
[Attacks first.]
____
Michelangelo "Oh, yeah! Michelangelo is on the move!"
____
Leo "Heeyah!"
____
Mikey "You don't know what to do. I'm here; I'm there. I could be anywhere. How do you stop what you can't even see?"
____
Leo "
[She Spins her sword around as Mikey attacks and hits her in the stomach with the pommel.]
____
Like that."
____
Mikey "Good one, Lee."
____
[On the opposite side from them, Raphael and Donatello face off.]
____
Raphael "All right, Donnie. Put down the staff, and no one gets hurt."
____
Donatello "Uh, you said that last time, Raph, and then you hurt me."
____
Raph "Yeah, but less than I would have."
____
Donnie "Yeah, right. Wah! Ah! Yah!
[Spins staff, swinging it at Raph, who continues to dodge. Suddenly, they find themselves without the staff. They see Raph with it, who spins the staff and then breaks it in half over his knee.]
____
Should've dropped the staff?"
____
Raph "Should've dropped the staff."
____
[Raph begins whacking Don with both sections of the staff.]
____
Donnie "Okay okay. Ow! I'm down!"
____
[Leo steps up to face Raph, who drops both parts of the staff. Don joins Mikey in kneeling on the sidelines. Mikey sticks his tongue out at Don. Leo and Raph face each other, one knee on the floor.]
____
Leo "Onegai shimasu."
____
Raph "Quit your yapping and come at me already, you big blueberry."
____
[Begin their fight, sword against sai. Leo manages to force one sai out of Raph's hands; it flies across the room, going between Mikey and Don before hitting the wall.]
____
Leo "Ah!"
____
[Raph disarms Leo, traps her wrist in between the sai and throws her to the ground.]
____
Raph "Ha! You thought."
____
Splinter "Yame!"
____
[A Master emerges from his room as the four turtles kneel.]
____
Splinter "You all did very well."
___
Raph "But I did better."
___
Splinter "Raphael, this is about bettering one's skill level. It's not a matter of winning or losing."
___
Raph "I know, Sensei. But I won, and they lost.
[Splinter presses against a nerve in Raph's neck.]
____
Ah, ah, ah! But what matters most is that we all gave it our best effort. Everyone did a great job! Ah!"
____
Splinter "Hee, hee, hee."
____
[Theme song; opening sequence]
____
[Family seated in the kitchen. All are eating platefuls of algae and worms.]
____
Leo "Mm."
____
Donnie "Bleh!"
____
Mikey "If anyone wants some more, there's still some algae and worms left! Anybody? Anybody?"
____
Leo "No, thanks."
____
Raph "Yeah, I'm good."
____
Donnie "All yours, buddy."
____
Mikey "Well, I guess no one left room for...cake!"
____
Turtles "Whoa!"
____
Donnie "It is a cake! An actual cake!"
____
Raph "Made of...algae...and...worms."
____
Leo "What's the frosting made out of?"
____
Mikey "You don't wanna know. Happy Mutation Day!"
____
Leo, Raph and Donnie "Happy Mutation Day!"
____
Splinter "Ah, yes. Fifteen years ago today, our lives changed forever, and we became the unlikeliest of families."
____
Mikey "Tell us the story, papa! Tell us the story!"
____
Splinter "Michelangelo, I have already told you it many times."
____
Mikey "Please! Pleeeease!"
____
Splinter "Ah, well, if you insist.
[Scene flashes back to replay the story.]
____
Many years ago, when I was still human, I decided I needed some company, and so I went to the pet store in search of some companions."
____
Mikey "You're talking about us, right?"
____
Splinter "Yes. Now don't interrupt! I passed a strange man on the street. Something felt off about him. I just couldn't quite describe the feeling, and so with that, I let my curiosity get the better of me and followed him."
____
[Hamato Yoshi peeks around a corner to see two oddly identical-looking men having a discussion. One is holding a canister containing a green, glowing liquid. Yoshi steps on a rat's tail, and its squeaking draws the men's attention. They then approach him.]
____
Kraang "Do not continue. You are not permitted to be in this location that is the location that is now at this time which is of the now. You have observed us here that is where we are, thus, this is not a location that you will leave."
____
[A fight ensues, during which Kraang drops a canister of ooze and Yoshi drops the turtle jar into said ooze. Yoshi painfully transforms into Splinter, and turtles mutate as well. Flashback ends.]
____
Splinter "And thus, that marked the start of our shared lives. In a sense, we were all born from the mutation in that canister."
____
Mikey "
[Grabs the canister and hugs it.]
____
Mama!"
____
Leo "So, dad, now that we're fifteen, don't you agree that we're finally ready to go up to the surface?"
____
Splinter "Yes . . .
[They all cheer]
____
and no."
____
[All disappointed.]
____
Mikey "Oh, come on, man!"
____
Leo "Lame."
____
Raph "I hate when he does that."
____
Splinter "You have all grown powerful, but you are still very young and lack the maturity to use your skills wisely."
____
Donnie "So isn't that just a no?
____
Splinter "Yes...and no. Wisdom is gained through experience, and experience is gained through mistakes."
____
Donnie "Aha! So in order for us to gain the wisdom, we have to go up there and make the mistakes. That means we can go."
____
Splinter "No."
____
Donnie "And yes?"
____
Splinter "No!"
____
Donnie "Oh...!"
____
Leo "Dad, we know you're trying to protect us, but maybe it's time for us to explore new places. I mean, we can't spend our whole lives hiding down here."
____
[The Master looked at his children as they begged, their eyes sparkling and huge.]
Splinter "Mm. Ok fine you all can go tonight, but you must be safe!"
____
Mikey "High three!"
____
[Leo watching a cartoon.]
____
Captain Ryan "
[on TV]
____
Mr. Crankshaw, status report!"
____
Crankshaw "
[on TV]
____
Status? I'll give you the status! We're gonna blow up in two seconds!
[Is slapped]
____
Thank you, Captain."
____
Leo "
[Quoting along with show.]
____
Gentleman, I have a bold and daring plan.. There is no time to think things over. My commands must be obeyed without hesitation!"
____
Crankshaw "
[on TV]
____
Aye, sir!"
____
Raph "You know this show is stupid, right?"
____
Leo "Space Heroes is not a dumb show, and Captain Ryan is a great hero! One day, I'm going to be just like him!"
____
Raph "Well, you do like to hear yourself talk, so I guess you are on your way."
____
Mikey "It's go time!"
____
[The turtles prepare to go up to the surface with their weapons. A bo, two sais, two katanas, and two nunchucks.]
____
Splinter "You are going up to a strange and hostile world. You must maintain awareness at all times."
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Aye, Sensei!"
____
Splinter "Stay in the shadows."
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Aye, Sensei!"
____
Splinter "Don't talk to strangers."
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Aye, Sensei!"
____
Splinter "Everyone is a stranger."
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Aye, Sensei!"
____
Splinter "Make sure you go before you leave. The restrooms up there are filthy."
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Sensei!"
____
Splinter "Good luck, my children. And look both ways before crossing the street!"
____
Turtles "I am so pumped! Surface time! Oh, this is gonna be epic!"
____
Splinter "Goodbye, I love you all very much!"
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie & Mikey "We love you too!"
____
[As the scene shifts up into the streets of New York, everything is peaceful and quiet. A hand opens a manhole cover, and four figures come out. The turtles look around in awe because the world is a strange place.]
____
Mikey "It's so beautiful."
____
Leo "The city is just full of possibility. There could be an adventure around this corner...or...or this one...or this one! There's not, but there could be!"
____
Donnie "Look at all the computers! Is that the next generation cadmium processor with quantum encryption?"
____
Raph "I don't know, Dee. Is it?"
____
Donnie "It is!"
____
Mikey "Guys, guys! Check this out. A hand made out of light. Now it's an eye made out of light. And the hand again! Now the eye's back! Now the hand!"
____
Raph "Come on, genius."
____
Mikey "The eye!"
____
Donnie "So where to next?"
____
[A human kid stops and sees what looks to him like four creatures. Raph makes a face at him to scare him, and the kid drives off on his motorcycle, with a pizza box falling off the back.]
____
Raph "That was kinda fun."
____
Leo "We're too exposed out here. We have to get to higher ground. Come on!"
____
[The turtles are on a roof, Mikey stops to eye the pizza box.]
____
Mikey "
[Reading box.]
____
Pizza."
____
Donnie "Should we open it?"
____
Leo "Careful! It could be dangerous."
____
[Knowing this, they open the box.]
____
Donnie "I think it's food."
____
Raph "It's not like any food I've ever seen."
____
Mikey "I'll try it."
____
[The youngest takes a slice of pizza and samples a tiny bite. His brain appears to explode in wonderment, and he looks excited. He shoves the entire slice into his mouth.]
____
Mikey "Uh, yuck. You guys won't like it. I'll take the rest."
____
Turtles "Uh, uh.- No way!- Nuh-uh! Back off!"
____
Raph "I never thought I'd taste anything better than worms and algae, but this is amazing!"
____
Mikey "I love it up here!"
____
[Cut to them running on the rooftops, having fun.]
____
Leo "All right, guys, it's getting late, and dad might get worried. We should probably head back home."
____
Raph, Donnie & Mikey "Aw. Lame."
____
Donnie "
[Spots something street-level.]
____
Guys! Look at that!"
____
[On the sidewalk below are two people. A man named Kirby O'Neil and a teenage girl named April. Leo looks at the girl in awe]
____
Leo "Woah. She's a really pretty girl."
____
Raph "Gay."
____
Leo "Shut up Raph!"
____
[Leo and Raph start tussling until they notice a van pull up in front of the O'Neils. Three men, all identical, jump out of the back.]
____
Kirby O'Neil "What? Who are you?"
____
[April O'Neil grabs her Father's arm in fear.]
____
Donnie "We gotta save 'em!"
____
Leo "Splinter's instructions were very clear. We're supposed to stay away from people. And bathrooms."
____
Raph "C'mon, Leo, we all know you secretly wanna be the knight in shining armor to that girl down there, so let's just hurry up and go!"
____
Leo "Ok, fine, but only because helping people is what heroes do, and definitely not because I think that girl is too pretty to die!"
____
Mikey "Awesome man, adventure time!"
____
[The four turtles leap down from the building.]
____
April "
[Being dragged to the van, Kirby is unconscious.]
____
Help! Help!"
____
[A man tosses Kirby into the van.]
____
Raph "Hey!"
____
[Raph punches the man while brothers engage the rest. The man rises up as a strange warbling sound echoes.]
____
Raph "Still standing, huh? I'll fix that."
____
[He bumps into his sister.]
____
Raph "Watch it!"
____
Leo "You watch it!"
____
[Turtles fight in uncoordinated fashion, all bumping into each other while trying to fight the men.]
____
Raph "Watch it, Donnie!"
____
[They continue to fight erratically, having no awareness of where or what their brothers are doing. Each unintentionally impeding each other.]
____
Raph "Oh, come on!"
____
April "
[Another identical man tosses April over his shoulder.]
____
Hey, cut it out! Stop! Ow! Let go of me!"
____
[Leo notices April is being carried away and jump-kicks the man from behind, knocking him down. April goes flying, and Leo runs to catch her before she hits the ground, barely making it.]
____
Leo "Gotcha!"
____
[April looks up at this strange creature, who gives her a charming smile. Without any warning, April screams, causing Leo to also scream and drop her.]
____
Leo "AAGHH!! No, no, no. No. Don't worry. We're the good guys.
[April screams again.]
____
It's okay."
____
[April turns to see that the men are coming closer, and she looks at the strange creature. She holds out a hand to help her up; however, her younger brother accidentally hits her with his nunchucks.]
____
Mikey "Whoops! Sorry. Watch out!"
____
[The man kicks the turtles away, takes April into the van, and drives off.]
____
Leo "Huh? They're getting away! They've got the girl!"
____
[The turtles start running after them.]
____
Raph "
[Running after them.]
____
You just jabbed me with your bo."
____
Donnie"
[Running alongside him.]
____
Well, I didn't know you were gonna land where I was jabbing."
____
[Michelangelo stands and starts walking after his brother, then spots one of the men alone.]
____
Mikey "You think you're tough, huh? You think you're tough enough to stand up to my hot nunchuck fury!?"
____
[He strikes the man several times, but he doesn't flinch, then he grabs the nunchuck and yanks it from Mikey's hand.]
____
Mikey "Huh? I see. Well, then... Aah!"
____
[He flees, and the man starts to chase him. Mikey runs into a dead-end alley and is cornered.  Mikey pulls his kusarigama, eyes closed, as he begins slashing at the man in sheer terror.]
____
Mikey "Stay back!
[Slashes the man across the face. He stumbles around with hands over his face and then collapses.]
____
What the..?
[Mikey, still shocked, uses his foot to flip the man onto his back and sees a robotic face beneath the human mask.]
____
That is all kinds of wrong."
____
[All of a sudden, a pinkish-brain creature inside the robot screeches. The young turtle screams as it leaps onto his face. Struggling to get the creature off, Mikey slams into a wall and then tugs at the thing. He finally pulls it far enough away to use his feet for leverage and yanks the thing off, where it hits the wall and scurries away. Mikey quickly runs to find the others.]

Mikey "Guys! Guys! You're never gonna believe this! That dude, he... he..."
____
Leo
[The turtle runs up to the youngest in panic after seeing the expression on their face.]
"Mikey, where were you? What happened? Why are you shaking!?"
____
Mikey "He corned me... he wasn't human... he... he just..."
____
[Leo walks up to Mikey and starts patting him on their shell in hopes of calming them down.]
____
Leo "There there, Mikey. Now why don't you show us where you were when this happened?"
____
Mikey "Just- just come here.
[He walks off to show the others.]
____
I'm telling you. The big guy was a robot, and he had a freaky-weird alien brain thing in his chest. You gotta believe me."
____
Raph "I'm not sure we do."
____
Mikey "Oh, yeah? Well, you'll change your tune when you see that he's . . .
[The alley is empty.]
____
...gone?"
____
Leo "Hey, if it at least counts for something, I believe you."
____
[Cut to the turtles entering the lair.]
____
Splinter "Ah. You are all back!"
____
Leo, Raph, Donnie, & Mikey
[They enter the lair all looking and sounding dim due to how poorly the night ended.]
____
"Hi dad."
____
Splinter "
[Splinter notices their mopey behavior.]
"Uh. Why don't we all sit down and talk about how your first day above went!"
____
[Cut to the living room.]
____
Splinter "Now what is bothering you, my children?"
____
[The turtles explain what had just previously happened.]
____
Splinter "And so your inability to work together allowed them all to get away."
____
Raph "Well, maybe if I didn't have to waste time arguing with Twilight Sparkle, I could've saved them."
____
Donnie "Hey, if you hadn't gotten in my way, I could have done it. And you just went off doing your own thing!"
____
Leo "Well, it would've worked out great if somebody hadn't hit me in the head with their nunchucks!"
____
Mikey "Well, none of this would've happened if.... somebody hadn't trusted us to go up there in the first place. Oh, geez. Pops, I didn't mean to-"
____
Splinter "No, son. You are right."
____
Mikey "I am?"
____
Leo, Raph & Donnie "He is?"
____
Splinter "You were all not fully prepared for what was up there. I trained you to fight as individuals, not as a team. And as your teacher, your father, the responsibility for that is mine. Perhaps in another year we can try again."
____
Donnie "Another year? Ha! Has everybody forgotten that people were kidnapped? They don't have a year! Dad, we have to do something now!"
____
Leo "Yeah, Donnie's right, dad. I mean, you weren't there. You didn't see the way that girl looked into my eyes. She looked so scared. And she was counting on me, us, to save her!"
____
[Splinter raises an eyebrow at Leo, then glances at a human family picture.]
____
Splinter "Yes, you must save her."
____
Donnie "I agree, dad. But in that fight, we weren't exactly a well-oiled machine."
____
Mikey "Like that robot with the brain thingy."
____
Raph "Give it a rest!"
____
Splinter "Hmm. If you are to fight more effectively as a unit, you are going to need a leader."
____
Leo "Can I be the leader?"
____
Raph "Why should you be the leader? I kicked your butt. I should be the leader."
____
Donnie "Hey, I'm smarter than all you guys put together. It should be me!"
____
Mikey "No way! It should be me! I don't really have a reason. I just think it would be neat."
____
Splinter "This is a difficult decision. [Goes to his room.] I will meditate on it.
[Closes door and then opens it immediately.]
____
It's Leonardo."
____
Leo "Yes! No hard feelings, Raph?"
____
Raph "Urgh. Stick it in your shell."
____
[Cut to the rooftops.]
____
Mikey "Explain to me one more time what we're doing here."
____
Leo "Mikey, we've been over this. That building has the same logo as the van that was used to kidnap the girl."
____
Raph "And that guy."
____
Leo "And that guy. And so if we wait here long enough, one of the kidnappers will eventually show their face. And when they do, we'll make them tell us where she got taken to."
____
Raph "And he."
____
Leo "And he."
____
Mikey "And then we got ourselves a van!"
____
Leo "Just hit the guy I tell you to."
____
Mikey "Will do!"
____
Raph "Are you sure this is gonna work?"
____
Leo "Trust me. They'll be here any second."
____
[Time passes; the brothers do things to entertain themselves while Leo keeps watch.]
____
Mikey "Okay, I'm thinking of something green. Ga-reen. Ga-reen."
____
Donnie "Is it Raphael again?"
____
Mikey "Man, you're good at this!"
____
Raph "Give it up already. The guy's not gonna show."
____
Leo "We have to be patient."
____
Raph "No, you have to come up with a better plan, 'cause the four of us standing here with our thumbs up our noses . . ."
____
Mikey "I don't think they'd fit."
____
Raph ". . . is pointless."
____
Leo "You sure about that, Raph?"
____
Raph "they just showed up, didn't they? Man, I should've complained two hours ago."
____
Leo "Gentleman, I have a bold and daring plan.. There is no time to think things over. My commands must be obeyed without hesitation!"
[Notices that his brothers are gone.]
____
Guys? Guys, wait up!"
____
[She joins them. At street-level all four approach the driver of the van.]
____
Raph "All right, buddy. We can do this the easy way, or, by my vote, the hard way."
____
Donnie "Yeah, look at it logically. There are four of us and one of you. What are you gonna do?"
____
[The man starts shooting lasers at them, and the turtles jump high to avoid them.]
____
Raph "You had to ask!"
____
Donnie "He's getting away again!"
____
Leo "No, he's not."
____
[The turtles take to the rooftops to chase him down. Raph leaps on top of the van but is shaken off. One of the men sees the other turtles on top of the roofs and begins shooting at them.  Leo jumps into the air and throws a shuriken, which pierces one of the van's tires. The driver loses control and plows into a light pole, and then the van flips onto its side.]

Leo "Now we're getting somewhere."
____
[All four go back down to the street. Leo begins to give hand signals, but the brothers look at her in confusion.]
____
Raph "I don't know what that means."
____
Leo "Go around back."
____
Mikey "Why didn't she just say so?"
____
[They creep around to the back of the van, which is open, and the contents spilling onto the street. Raph pulls up one of the doors, and a canister filled with glowing blue ooze rolls out and stops at Mikey's feet. It looks exactly like the canister they have at home.]
____
Mikey "Mom?"
