vinnie played the song, the lyrics immediately making his heart race. he shook his head and huffed. there is no way this song can mean anything, she has a boyfriend.
destiny sent the song to vinnie because the lyrics spoke volume to her. even though her and vinnie had the small fall out because of him getting back with amelia, destiny still loved him as her best friend. she will always love him as her best friend.
destiny got in ezequiels truck, kissing his cheek and putting her seat belt on. the two discussed how tomorrow, prom night, would go.
ezequiels mom wanted to rent a limo for him and his friends, but ezequiel wanted to get input from everyone before he allowed his mother to do so.
"so, what song did you share with vinnie today?" ezequiel changed the conversation, skipping through his playlist.
"uhm." destiny hesitated. "forever always."
"'i wanna hear it." ezequiel handed her his phone. destiny shrugged her shoulders, not thinking anything of the song. it was just one of her favorite songs that when she listened to it, vinnie came to mind.
derby played the song and ezequiel stared at the road, eventually clenching his jaw and gripping the steering wheel. destiny noticed the change in body behavior, hesitating on asking him what was wrong, but already knowing what the issue was.
"just a song, baby." she told him.
"it's a love song."
"it's just a song."
"it's a love song for a boy you use to have feelings for, destiny." ezequiel softly told her. he wasn't one to raise his voice at people he cared about, especially someone like destiny. he cared too much to even yell at her.
"key words: use to." destiny pointed out. "i sent him that song because as his best friend, i'll always love him." destiny explained to ezequiel. she was telling the truth, but she didn't understand yet that the real reason she sent him the song was to tell him the words she can never really say. it wasn't her place to say those words in the meaning that they were intended to have.
"am i going to lose you to him?" ezequiel looked at destiny, stopping at the red light in front of them. destiny bit the inside of her cheek.
"no, i wouldn't ever leave you for him." she assured him. ezequiel nodded and turned into the school, parking where he always parked.
the two walked hand-in-hand into the school, making their way into their classroom. vinnie looked up to see his best friend, holding her boyfriends hand.
the song went through his head. he felt like a stake was being driven through his heart at the sight of both of them. he hated himself for feeling like this. he made the wrong choice, and it was finally getting to him.
"hey." destiny smiled, sitting in her desk.
"sup, vinnie." ezequiel greeted.
"hey des, castro." he smiled.
"so the song?" destiny raised an eyebrow.
"solid eleven out of ten." vinnie answered honestly. he hasn't rated one of the songs she's sent him in forever, it felt weird if he was being honest with himself.

vinnie made his way towards the table, amelia clinging onto his arm. with prom around the corner, he knew amelia had high expectations of tomorrow night.
the group was pretty excited for tomorrow night. for the first time in all four years, each person in the group had a date for a school dance.
destiny was going with ezequiel, vinnie was going with amelia, and kayla was going with troy.
kio was taking a girl he's known for a long time. they were going as friends. the girl he's taking was a shy girl the group has known about, but never really talked to due to her shyness. kio was the only one who managed to build some type of bond with her, he had a soft spot in his heart for shy girls.
chase was taking one of the many girls he talks to. of course, the girl felt like she was winning at everything because the pretty boy chase keith was taking her to prom. little did she know, chase was probably going to ditch her sometime during the night.
"okay, so." ezequiel began, allowing destiny to slide onto the seat to sit in between him and vinnie. "my mom wants to rent a limo, but i don't know how you guys feel about that."
the groups eyes lit up in excitement.
"all eyes would be on us. most good looking group arriving in a fucking limo, imagine?" chase excitedly spoke.
"yeah, but the thing is she wants pictures. i don't know how you guys would feel about that."
"pictures are memories, we should definitely do it." kio insisted.
"someone is renting an airbnb for a prom after party on the beach, wanna go?" troy asked, looking up from his phone.
"yeah i say why not, it'll be cool." vinnie nodded.
"so the limo is a go?"
"duh." kayla smiled. ezequiel turned to destiny, a smile forming on both of their faces. the group discussed prom more, making each other excited.
the events that tomorrow night will bring will be unforgettable. it will definitely be a night to remember, especially for destiny and vinnie.
