The light pools in from your window, shining in your eyes, causing them to flutter open. Your mind races back to last night. That charming stranger. Uh oh. What was his name again? How could you forget such an important detail? You groan into your pillow, feeling like an idiot.

How could you let such a cute guy slip through your fingers? You probably would have pounced on him right then and there if not for the embarrassing situation. This was something that you'd never forgive yourself for if you didn't do it right next time. If there even is a next time. You'd probably never see him again. Even if you did, confidence is easier said than done.

Is it even worth it in the end? Finding this guy won't be easy. I mean, yeah it's a small town, but still. How do you even go about that? What, are you just gonna ask around? Put up posters of what you remember he vaguely looks like in shitty crayon drawings? That would be ridiculous. Who in their right mind would spend time looking for someone you literally just bumped into last night?

You would. That is exactly what you'd do. You have to find this guy!

But there has to be an easier way to find him. You sit on your bed, digging through your memories. Then it hit you. The haunted house! That's where he'd be!

You hurriedly put your shoes on, wanting to get going as fast as possible. Without missing a beat, you swiftly grab your car keys and rush out the door to your car. Getting in, you can feel yourself get giddy already. You're really excited to finally to this right.

You drive eagerly all the way down to the haunted house, in which of course, is closed because it's broad daylight. Great. And you thought this would be easy? Nope. Life just throws all kinds of shit your way. Lucky you.

You get out of the car anyways, hoping this wasn't just some attraction and maybe someone lived her for real. Your nerves just keep getting worse and worse, your heart beating out of your chest by the time you get to the door. Gently, you knock.

There's shuffling from inside, then the door opens. A punk looking guy answers the door, smiling at you with his snake bite piercing in view "What can I do for ya?".

You pause, unsure what to say now. How do you explain this odd situation? Do you just go ahead and say "Oh, yeah! I'm looking for a cute vampire boy I met here last night!".

Oh. Oh no. You actually said that out loud. You cover your mouth, blushing in embarrassment. The guy laughs and leans in the doorway, "You mean Streber? Yeah, he's not home right now. Sorry."

Sighing, you hang your head. This not only was a huge waste of time, but it's also really embarrassing. Wonderful. Just wonderful. You think to yourself, "What am I doing?".

The guy sighs and offers a warm smile "Look, he went to the coffee place down the block. Maybe if you're quick you can catch him."

You immediately perk up. Oh thank goodness for this stranger! "Thank you so much! Uh-" you blank on his name.

Oh. He never said his name. How embarrassing. Again.

He laughs "It's Ethan.".

"Thank you, Ethan" you say as you sprint down the street.

No time for the car, you have to do this on foot. It's now or never. You dart down the street, swiftly cutting corners and making your way to the coffee place like Ethan had said. You get there and stop, scanning the big window to see if your prince was inside.

A wave of disappointment comes across you and you groan. You missed him. Great. Now what? Well, as long as you're here, you might as well grab some coffee. It might help the sleepiness you still feel from last night. You go inside, looking dejected. Hopefully no one would bother you.

You walk up to the counter and order your drink, the barista looking at you with concern before shrugging it off and ringing you up. The order is called and you take the cup, maybe with more force than you intended because the lady gave you a look. You're just salty about the whole situation.

You get an idea. Maybe, just maybe you could ask the barista if she's seen your guy? Well, not "your" guy per say, but still. It may be really embarrassing, but hopefully you'll get brownie points for being desperate. You take a breath and approach the register once more. "Hey, so this may sound weird...", you begin, "But I was wondering if you've seen a guy in here. Uh, black hair, kinda slim looking? Violet eyes?".

The barista puts her finger to her chin, thinking "Hmm...that description sounds familiar...I think I saw someone like that earlier." she says, seeming to not be bothered by your obscure question.

You perk up. She's seem him! You get really excited, bouncing on your heels happily. "Can you tell me where he went? Well, at least the direction?" you say hopefully, fingers crossed.

The barista nods "He came in here about an hour ago. Had a cute little set up with a laptop and everything. He seemed pretty focused on whatever he was doing. Then the guy left across the street. I think he went down main. Is that enough information for you?".

Wow. Just wow. You might have a chance! You really might have a chance here! You nod frantically, thanking the lady. Then without further waiting, you rush out the door with hope in your heart.

Half-way down the block, you stop for a breath, snapping back to reality for a second. How can I be sure I'll find him? You sit on a bench, out of breath and starting to lose hope. Holding your head, you sigh, feeling your heart shatter into a million pieces just thinking of all the odds that were against you. Why does the world hate you so damn much?

"Hey, are you okay?"

A voice snaps you out of it and you perk up from your mopey position.

Streber?
