Chapter 1: Moving

1 1 1

The day started out with Jordan barging into my room with a megaphone, screaming: "Get up, we're moving to Eastsideeee!" I was so pissed at him I threw my phone at the door and he left yelling at my mom, telling her I was abusing him.

When I had gotten dressed and walked down a few steps, breakfast wafted into my nose and I realized today was my birthday. It only made things more exciting. I had so many things to look forward to. Junior year and being seventeen sounds amazing. Last year, not being able to spend my sweet 16th with anyone besides my mom and Jordan was horrid. I mean it was great and all, I still enjoyed it to the fullest, but I know things would've been even more fun with Serenity, Demetrius, Kamari, and maybe even Khari. I miss Khari, I wonder if we'd continue where we left off before I left again.

But... we'll all find out tomorrow when Jordan and I head back to school for the first day. My mom seemed happier than usual as she went about in the kitchen, I slid into the chair waiting for her to notice me. "Oh dear!" She smiled. "Happy birthday my sweet Kailina." She gave me a kiss on the forehead and gave me a plate of fried ice cream. She always surprises me each year for what I get to eat for breakfast on my birthday and this year is fried ice cream which does not disappoint me.

"Are you excited to see our house?" My mom asked as she scooped herself one into a bowl. "Yes I am." I said in between bites. "I don't know why you wouldn't let us see it with you beforehand."

"It's because I don't want to ruin the surprise." She said with a little squeal in her voice. "We would love it either way mom," Jordan sat beside me at the table. "Is dad going to be home to enjoy seeing our new house as well?"

My mom was quiet for a few seconds before responding back to my brother. "He's already seen it, he'll be joining us later in the evening when he gets off of work for dinner." My brother looked at me and rolled his eyes. Both him and I have been having suspicions that our dad is cheating on our mom. Personally I wouldn't understand why, not being biased that this is my mother we're talking about, but she's a total catch. She is literally so hot. From a standpoint of not being her daughter.

After breakfast, I headed up the stairs to look at my childhood room for one last time and grabbed my last box that was beside my bed. I dropped in the little keychain Kamari gave to me as a kid for protection inside and headed down the stairs.

As we drove and drove, Jordan blasted what my mom calls "thug" music in the car, but Jordan and I were having the blast of blasts. We jammed all the way to our new driveway---

"Mom?" Jordan had the widest smile on his face and it seemed to dawn on me as well. This was in no way happening. Never would I imagine something that we all joked about as kids at the table would come true in the future...

We pulled into the Smiths' driveway.

"LORELAI!" Mrs. Smith, Sarah, hopped down her front door steps and ran towards my mother. "God I missed you!" They both shared a kiss on the cheek and before I knew it, Demetrius and Kamari were walking out the front door as well. Wow.

Demetrius the older brother, definitely grew into himself and gained more muscle and has a strong head on his shoulders. Kamari, the same looking, more muscle and a lot taller. Even taller than Demetrius.

"Is that Kai I see?" Kamari said pointing at me with jaws dropped.

"In the flesh." I replied back doing a spin.

"Kamari, it's Lina, the nickname is Lina." Demetrius looked over at his younger brother when I interjected. "I actually prefer Kai." Kamari smiled and something I haven't seen in awhile made me feel warm inside.

"So are you stoked we're basically brothers now?" Demetrius said giving a fist bump to Jordan as we all headed inside.

"Basically, but if one of us married Kai, we'd actually be brothers." Kamari chimed in and the lord, my heart stopped and I turned like a bright tomato.

"It's a joke Kailina, no one would want to marry you." He ended with.

"That's crazy." Jordan said, laughing in response to Kamari's little joke. I pushed passed and headed to the restroom because either way I needed to use it after the long drive, but also just wanted to get out of the situation with how hard I was blushing.

I set my phone down on the side of the sink, and let out a sigh. I always knew I kind of had a crush on both Demetrius and Kamari, for them only being a year older than me and my brother being their best friend. But also the fact that I know almost everything about them and we're basically like family already. There's no one else I know that's close to us like them, not even my own cousins or other family relatives are close like that. But that's because of the relationship my mom and Sarah have; they've been best friends since the beginning of time and never fail to let us know that, especially when they're drunk.

"Come on out, Kai, I'm sorry for what I said earlier." I could hear Kamari's voice through the door and I laughed.

"You think I'm upset about what you said?" I asked. "I wouldn't dare to marry you anyways."

"Is that so?" I heard receding footsteps after the question and carried on with my business in the bathroom.

As I stepped out, I decided to reminisce the house. I gave my self a retour of the old memories and where we would build our fortresses and play "the floor is lava." I was then called by mom to go down and help get the rest of our belongings and did as followed.

Sarah gave the key to my mom and grabbed her box out of her arms. "Here's the key to the guest house."

"This is a guest house?" I asked. "It's a house house for us." Jordan replied back.

"I'm glad." Sarah smiled. "Come on boys, let's give them some time to get settled in while we go get dinner fixed for all of us." Kamari and Demetrius gave a salute to Jordan and raced back to the main house.

Sarah then gave the box to Jordan, stacking on the boxes he already had and gave one last hug to our mom before heading back with her sons.

---

The house was amazing. From the ceiling to the floor, to how the windows were spaced and especially how the backyard just went and connected to the overall bigger part of the backyard was amazing. AND having our own little patio space?! I was beyond exhilarated. My eyes couldn't stop looking. The kitchen was enormous and each bedroom was gigantic.

My mom told us to set our boxes down and gave us a cheesy story telling of how she picked out our rooms, but it was worth the wait of her spiel to find out that my room had a balcony  overlooking the pool and seeing our house and the whole entire front of the neighborhood, plus the mountain scenery. It was literally a dream.

"I hope you guys like it and are a bunch happier." Before my mom left Jordan's room, which we were all standing in, she turned back and said: "You can turn the basement into a game room or man cave as you so wish, since Kailina got a balcony."

"YES!" Jordan jumped and stuck his tongue out at me. "I love my room, you do you." I said laughing.

"Can I share the space with you?" I asked before going to set my room up.

"I'll think about it."
