Serenity and I had decided to go to the beach and pitch a tent since our first day was a Friday and the weekend was coming up, plus apparently the Bonfire Doozy was tonight.
"So why is it called doozy at the end?" I said as I staked the pole into the grass.
"Everyone gets so high and wasted you can't say dizzy right."
I wanted to face palm so hard, but it was good and funny that I just laughed.
"Are you guys ditching class?" Jordan appeared out of nowhere and I nearly pissed myself.
"Did you follow us here?"
"No I didn't, I actually came to set up for the Bonfire Doozy this weekend that Kamari and Demetrius were telling me about."
"Well looks like we're doing the same as you." Serenity said and also offered to help him.
"I'll pitch our stuff right next to your guys' cause I don't want my sister bonking no boners."
"That's wild." I replied back.
"Are you guys here to set up for the Doozy?" A man who I've never seen before, but someone who I am glad I've seen now. "I'm Jaiden."
"Nice to meet you dude, I'm Jordan."
"J-squared how cute, a new bromance brewing I see?" Demetrius said as he came walking up with lawn chairs.
"I would never cheat on you."
Serenity rolled her eyes at Jordan and he added that he was very loyal to his bromances.
"So is everyone just ditching school to come here?"
"Some people choose to and some people don't, if everyone were to leave the teachers would suspect something happening."
"I doubt they'd suspect a thing, Mr. Brown doesn't even notice the fly in his coffee every morning."
"Oh that's so gross that you notice that."
"And you are?" His eyes gleamed.
"Kailina."
"An honor to know you." He smiled. "Is there anything you guys need help with?"
"Oh yeah you can help Kai set up snacks and our table area, I'll go get the seats." Serenity patted the back of the trunk before heading to the middle of the car to grab the seats.
"Does this mean I can post up next to you guys to?"
"You're totally fine dude!" Demetrius smiled and pulled over some of Jaiden's belongings that he had dropped in the grass behind him.
As we set up I end up learning who this Jaiden person was. He was the second oldest out of five siblings but his older brother had committed suicide so he took on the role of being the oldest child. He told me about how we wanted to pursue a career in becoming a chef or musician and went on to say how different they were, but also how he could do both in the modern world because people love entertainment.
"Wow this was a lot deeper than I expected it to go for just setting up snacks."
"I know I really got to the meat of my life." He said as he held up a piece of salami from the charcuterie board before shoving it into his mouth.
"And this conversation is so boring." Kamari's voice sounded from behind me, he was sitting in a lawn chair for I don't know how long, but just chimed in.
"I enjoyed it." I replied with a smile to Jaiden and he returned it. "Let's go get some drinks."
"We don't need any, I got that covered." said Kamari as he pointed to the big blue cooler by his tent.
"You know, I've been so lost in this conversation I don't know where Serenity went."
I parted from the tent area and pulled out my phone to text her.

Kai: where are u?
Ser: I'm chillin with some dude named Matt.
Kai: oh so u left me like that?
Ser: ur talking to sous chef Jaiden
Kai: I wanna drink
Ser: lets.
Kai: white girl wasted?
Ser: maybe.
Kai: okay.
Ser: wait. Okay. Yeah, white girl wasted tonight.
Kai: ight~
Ser: who's your bonfire kiss tonight? I'm thinking mine is Matt DaMarien.
Kai: for me? Wait what? There's a bonfire kiss?
Ser: just ask sous chef Jaiden
Kai: 🫠

Oh Jesus. A bonfire kiss? I thought it was just a doozy to get drunk and high and maybe bone a guy. But who knows if Jaiden even sees me like after that short amount of time he spilled his life to me.
"Do you know about the bonfire kiss?"
"No."
"Oh you don't?"
"No I'm saying no to being yours."
"I wasn't asking you to be my bonfire kiss Kamari."
I stormed off back to Serenity's driver side of the car and opened the door to grab my vape that I had left for Serenity to hold on for me. I'm pretty sure she lost mine and bought me a new one though because I don't remember mine looking all brand new.
"So who's your kiss gonna be anyways?" I screamed and nearly punched him as I didn't know Kamari followed me to the car.
"Anyone but you."
"Okay don't get hurt."
"You either, or a cold sore from Macie."
"She's not like that."
"I don't know what she's like, but what I don't understand is all this hostility from day one towards me."
"I just like giving you a hard time I'm sorry," he shrugged. "I'll stop."
And just like that he left. He comes and goes, back and forth and has been so weird since I got here.
I headed back to where our gazebo was and started to munch on a few pieces of a salami with cheese. Jaiden was scrolling through his phone and I happened to catch a glance at him swiping right on a few girls.
He's not interested.
"I'm back and this is Matt." Before I could say anything Serenity was right behind me introducing me to her new arm candy. "Oh, are you Kailina?"
"And how would you know her?" Serenity gave me a curious look.
"Kamari and Demetrius show pictures of you and Jordan all the time, mainly you, but yeah."
"Pictures of me?" I asked. "When?"
"During practice and they were telling us you guys were coming to Eastside Heights being new to all the traditions and stuff. Well at least the ones that the local teenagers do." Matt then opened a beer and chugged the entire thing before smashing into one flat piece. "Interesting." Serenity and I said in unison.
"Yo Jaiden what position you trying out for this year?" Matt asked as he took a seat beside him. "Honestly trying to go for point if Kamari or who knows, Kailina's brother gets the position."
And I sort of let out a scoff which seemed to offend Jaiden. "I'm sorry it's just that those two are undefeated as a duo and will never be surpassed."
"Someone's a little confident in Kamari huh?"
"No my brother too." I was getting irritated at the situation when a bunch of more people started to show and set up since school was out. All the boys and everyone was back in our area and all their girlfriends miraculously appeared too.
This was going to be one hell of a weekend. Not to mention Serenity totally lead me into this by not telling me about the Bonfire Doozy.
