'Run, he's coming after you.'
That mantra repeated itself in Wren's head as she hurried her pace, trying to get away in an effort to stay alive. She knows she can't outrun him, he's too fast, but something in her mind tells her she has to at least try.
His footsteps creak as he follows her through the house, an animal on the hunt, slow and calculated as he drags the chase out, making her entire body wracked in fear.
Wren is losing places to hide as she runs, she can't go backwards and needs to find somewhere to conceal herself from him. She runs into her bedroom and hides under the bed before putting a hand over her mouth, trying to control her breathing as she curls her body inwards in a futile effort to disappear.
Not even ten seconds later, he stalks into the room and she knows he knows she's here. He prowls around the room slowly and she watches his shoes carefully until they get out sight. Wren holds her breath fearfully as the room goes completely silent, no movement, nothing. Suddenly, she is dragged by her ankles out from under the bed by a strong force. She lets out a scream, blood pools from her fingernails as she crawls at the wood floors in a futile attempt to get away, but before she can do anything her body is flipped over and-'
Wren's eyes fly open as she sits upright in her bed. Her heart beats rapidly as she comes down from the effects of her nightmare and lets out a exasperated sigh, from relief or fear she's not sure.
The dreams were getting worse by the day and she didn't know what they were or why they were happening. For the past few years, every night Wren dreamt of a dark figure. She hadn't told anyone for obvious reasons, one being it'd sound really weird if she told people she was having nightmares about being killed by the same mysterious figure every night, and two being no one in their right mind would ever tell someone about that unless they were stupid. And she was far from stupid.
Wren shook her head at her thoughts before throwing her covers off of her body and getting out of bed. Her bare feet touch the cold wood floor, making her shiver at the feeling, before making her way to her closet.
It was another day in Forks, Washington, a little town where it was almost always raining or cloudy and nothing interesting every happened. Wren had lived here her entire life, and so had both of her parents, only leaving for college. Her dad was a lawyer, one of the only ones in Forks, and was kept incredibly busy with silly things. Teenagers being stupid, DUI's, car crashes, etc... Her mom was quite different and instead of putting her political science degree to use she did charity work. Lots of charity work, especially for the schools. Her parents were always too busy with work to be parents and that gave Wren a lot of freedom, not that she used it. She was a very school oriented person and a bit of an overachiever so she never really had time for fun, but who really needed fun anyways?
Wren finally found an outfit that she liked and threw it on the bed as she began to change. She put on a blue cable knit sweater with flare jeans and oxfords, not the best outfit of her life but it was reasonable for a day like today. It was drizzling outside and would more than likely be like that the entire day, not enough rain to soak you through immediately but enough to where you would be slightly wet. Wren walked into her bathroom and began her morning routine, brushing out her dark brown hair until it was smooth before brushing her teeth, applying minimalist makeup, and last but not least making sure she smelled nice. Wren took one last look at herself in the mirror before grabbing her backpack from the desk in the middle of her room and going downstairs.
Even from upstairs, she could tell her parents were talking about work. Wren sighed to herself, knowing she was going to have to hear about whatever was happening, as she purposefully stepped on the loose floorboard on the staircase that creaked, alerting them that she was coming downstairs.
They whispered hurriedly as Wren put her backpack near the front door so she wouldn't forget it before walking into the kitchen. Her parents greeted her with big wide grins that told her they wanted her to do something. Wren gave them a closed-mouth smile as she sat down at the already set table before grabbing her fork and eating her breakfast that was already set out. It was biscuits and gravy, her favorite, which could only mean her parents were really desperate for her help.
They exchanged nervous glances before her dad cleared his throat, he was dress impeccably as ever in his suit and tie while he held the newspaper in his hand. "Good morning Birdie," he greeted. Out of both of her parents, her dad was her favorite. He was hardworking and Wren looked up to him. "Do you remember Charlie's daughter, Bella I think?"
She nodded in understanding as she ate. "Yeah, but I haven't seen her in a long time. It's not like she likes it here, dad." Wren laughed softly at the end of her sentence, remembering the obvious distain the girl had for Forks. "Why do you ask?"
"Turns out she's moving here for some reason." Her dad said, a hint of annoyance in his voice. Being one of the only good lawyers in town meant he had many interactions with the Chief of Police, not all of them good. "I was just wondering if you could be a doll and show her around, try to be her friend and all that." He ended his sentence with a smile, winking at her playfully while Wren had to resist the urge to roll her eyes.
"Sure, but I don't even know what classes she has." Wren said, hoping to get out of this. It wasn't that she didn't like Bella, they'd been friends when she'd visit, but the fact that her parents wanted to use them to benefit their relationship with the police made her annoyed.
"I've got that all taken care of, dear." Her mom said from the counter as she organized a folder, most likely another fundraiser for the school, one she would be forced to partake in because as her mom said, 'if my own daughter won't help me then no one else will.'
"Thanks, mom." Wren said dryly, earning her a single tap on the table from her dad. It was a warning of his, the more taps you got the more upset he was. Wren continued eating as she thought of how much she was going to dread this whole experience and it wasn't long until she was done. She walked out of the kitchen quickly after washing her plate, putting on her black fleece jacket before grabbing her backpack and walking out the house.
Her parents left about the same time she did every day and they gave each other swift goodbyes as they got in their respective cars. Wren getting in her black Maybach 57/62 that her parents forced her to get, which actually said a lot about the kind of parents they were if you thought about it because who forces their daughter to buy a car that's way to expensive for someone who only ever really drives to school.
Wren looked to the right as she started her engine to see her mom give her a single nod before looking away. She closed her eyes frustrated as she knew exactly what that look meant. 'You do this right or we'll be mad.' Wren ground her teeth together in agitation as she pulled out of the driveway and went on her way to school, passing through the small town she called him before reaching her destination.
She sat in her car for a few minutes until she saw an unknown red truck pull into the student parking lot and immediately knew it was Bella. Wren ran her hand over face before grabbing her bag and putting a smile on her face. She was already over this day and it hadn't even really started yet.
God please, don't make this day any worse.

That's the end of this chapter! Was it good? Bad? Meh?
I've had this chapter done for three months, but editing was taking forever and that's why it hasn't been out.
Do you have any theories or suggestions?
