Hey there! Even though I know this story might not be making waves, I've decided to dust off my writing cap and dive back into this story. So, consider it un-hiatused (if that's even a word)! However, I want to be completely upfront with you all - I can't promise a specific date for the next update. Real life may still try to sneak in a few surprises, but I'll do my best to keep the creative juices flowing.

Sending you all virtual hugs and thanks for reading my story!

Mission IV.

Tangled Loyalties

Senku was taken back to how he first saw her the moment he stood in her father's office. As the rest of his senses went wild, he felt his entire body stiffen and become engulfed in a wave of euphoria.

He still feels the same way about her. Just one look at her azure blue eyes can make him forget about the fact that he needs to move on. It takes just one look from her to break down his walls and fall for her all over again.

He can't stop his mind from replaying back the memories he has of being with Kohaku he almost believed he was back in his old life before Byakuya's untimely death. Those were the days when he made plans with Kohaku Weinberg in mind for every aspect of them.

Her aquamarine eyes reminded him of what he didn't choose and the pain he caused them both.

"Senku," his companion said, snapping him out of his reverie to what now became the future of his past.

He felt terrible for waking up in a future where he couldn't be with her. He paused for a moment before tearing his gaze away from the only woman who had ever made him feel alive.

"Let's continue this conversation at a later time," he said. "We had already wasted more than necessary for just a casual greeting." He didn't wait for his companion's reply as he turned his back at the man and started to walk away from where he had last found Kohaku, only to find her nowhere in sight.

Kohaku dashes down the corridor as long as her feet would allow it. Her heart was beating hard in her chest as though she felt she had a marathon the entire day. She felt suffocated at the same time because it took just seconds of staring at his crimson eyes and yet everything felt like an eternity.

Her knees gave out as she came to a halt in an empty hallway, and she leaned back against the wall as she tried to catch her breath. As she tried to regain her composure, she brushed some stray blonde hair from her face with her hand.

She shook her head to erase the look in his eyes. She told herself it was but a mere illusion her mind kept tricking her. He did not look at her with longing, did he?

"Stay focused, Kohaku." she murmured "Focus on your mission and stop being so pathetic over that man." Pushing away from the wall, she straightened her back and squared her shoulders.

He held your father responsible for his father's death. He came close to killing him right in front of you. He abandoned you. He didn't even carry any guilt when he chose to break up with you. That hurt drove you to rage. It made you antagonistic. It made you hard to gratify. It made you snuggle down to keep your distance and silence to keep everyone out. There are so many reasons to hate him.
