They're Here

The hairs on my arms poked up as a high concentration of something sensational and tingling erupted in the atmosphere around me. Goosebumps formed on my tough skin. The cool fall breeze brushed by me in an uncanny way. I stood up from picking berries in the greenhouse and walked out of it.

I looked up at the sky in awe as it filled with dark storm clouds. I couldn't believe that I wasn't able to detect them. I mean they are witches and even Nora was able to hide my own baby from me.

My legs began sprinting to the cabin until a bolt of lightening shocked me from the head and through my body all the way to my toes.

I fell to the ground on my knees and then to my stomach. The door to the cabin burst open. I tried to stand but my vision was blurry.

I watched as Nora and her friends ran out of the cabin. I thought I saw her glance at me but she gave no time to check on me. I weakly reached out to her but I couldn't even tell if it was her or not. My heart ached for a second but my body hurt more.

Never had my body felt so limp and immobile. I felt out of control of my limbs and muscles.

The battle commensed around me with the sound of shouts and various spells being blasted.

With all the strength I could muster--I knew I'd be able to heal much faster in my wolf form--I turned.

My tan body of fir and muscle ached and groans escaped my fangs. I limped to the trees, the scrimmage becoming more focused in my vision, and assessed the situation. Nora and Penny fought hard as a shield was held back up after each attack. There were about 50 others attacking them. Solomon and Hannah were paired up as well. David wasn't in sight.

For a split second, I became angry at the stupid witch thinking he had deserted. And it only added to the resentment I felt towards him already having learned that he was her ex boyfriend. I know Rob and David are no competition but it still gets to me.

I crawled my way up a tree and planned my attacks out. No later was I leaping from the branches and tearing down at witches. Once I got one killed, I retreated, well aware that I didn't have a chance against one in a fight.

I repeated my tactic again and again. When I went to jump onto another, they turned in time and zapped me with a spell. I fell limp on the ground and heard a cry come from my wife.

Then I heard them. No, more like sniffed them, sensed them, felt them.

"We got you Red!" Noah mind linked. My heart fell as I witnessed through blurry eyes the Blue Ridge Pack attack the witches. Leading them was David, that stupid witch.

"Why didn't you ask for help, Red?" Samuel, who had accompanied us to save Nora, mind linked me as he came over to assess my injuries. I was weak once again and couldn't think of recovering.

"I didn't want to ask such a thing when witches are almost impossible to fight." I responded. The memory of everyone's skulls cracking back in the mutt cell haunted me. I didn't want that to happen to wolves I cared for.

I looked for Nora in the battle and found Penny missing from beside her. Where was Penny? I got to my paws with Samuel's help and headed to be beside Nora.

She moved with lithe and skill. I couldn't understand where she was getting all of her energy. When she realized I was coming any closer, she shook her head. The others caught on and a few of the witches turned their attention to me. I couldn't see what was happening behind their vicious eyes. Dressed in ominous black they studied me. If I die, no more children from Nora. I stood my ground until a painstaking throb hit my head.

Oh no. I can't. I can't go out like this!

I howled. Suddenly, the witches stopped inflicting the pain in my head. In front of me was a small wolf. Her chocolaty eyes bore into my own.

She greeted me by name. On her furry lips I could have sworn I caught the glimpse of a smile. The witches all stopped and stared at the creature in bewilderment. Did they understand what she was like Penny had that day when she released me? How powerful is this blessing from the Moon Goddess?

The wolf slowly turned into a human form with a long, light blue dress dragging behind her. The transformation didn't really freak me out because I had seen countless transformations before my eyes from man to wolf and wolf to man. But never had anyone transformed with clothes on in becoming a human!

The woman turned to me and I caught my breath at how beautiful she was. Her hair glistened a white silver like the coat of her wolf's fur. Her eyes looked dark like the night sky. Her cheek bones were defined and high on her face. Her skin was pale, never having been kissed by the Sun. She was breath-taking. A sight for sore eyes.

She gave me a small smile and then turned to the witches.

When she spoke, it was like wind chimes in the wind. "I sent a prophecy to Nora when she was young so as to fulfill my own purposes. You know not my ways, so why do you fight this prophecy?" None of the witches spoke. "Norma is carrying a child that will be half werewolf and half witch. They will also have human in them, allowing them to be among the strongest and noblest children of the gods. Why do you deny this? Do you think you can change the minds of gods? Or their plans for this world? Ye fools."

She walked towards Nora who was on her knees and picked her up gently. When the Moon Goddess walked, it was as if she was sliding on ice across the dirt. It was all very ghostly. "My daughter, you are safe now. You and Red will live a healthy life and great will be your prosperity. Fear not. The gods have a plan for you and your family."

She kissed Nora's forehead and then slowly disappeared. The sun shined through the tall pines and everyone was still.

I transformed back into a man, got up, and hobbled over to my wife and we embraced each other. She squeezed me back with all of the strength she could muster.

"It's over." I said into her ear. She nodded. With her stomach pressing against me I felt so happy to know that we would have many kids. Nora was going to be okay.

I didn't care that it was butt naked in front of so many people.

Nora pushed me away and began looking around frantically. "Where's Penny?" She said with a worried tone in her voice. I began looking around too remembering that the witch had suddenly disappeared during the battle.

"Over here." Someone answered. The way they answered was full of indifference, as if Penny lying somewhere dead or alive was insignificant. I realized that it was one of the coven witches. Nora and I ran over to the lifeless body of Penny which was lying on the floor of the woods near the cabin.

"Oh Penny." Nora began to cry. Her shoulders shook as we both took in the fact that the witch was dead. I hugged Nora as she cried over her sister.

A witch approached us, clad in a dark cloak and bowed his head. "We sorry. We didn't realize the protection of the Moon Goddess. You see, we aren't exactly close to her as we are not her children. We follow the God of Earth. We will return to our home and commune with our God so that we can more fully understand this prophecy of your posterity. Maybe we can work together in the future if it be the Gods' will."

I looked at the man with the nastiest glare I could conjure. He awkwardly bowed and then gathered up his coven. They disappeared into the woods and I silently prayed to God that I wouldn't have to see them again.

Noah came up and patted me on the back. He didn't say anything but I bet it had something to do with me being stark naked.

"I'm gonna go put some clothes on." I said to my wife. She didn't react to my words. I slowly left her and walked into the house.
