I look out my frosty bedroom window and out to my yard, which has been transformed for the winter months into an arctic tundra. Frozen winds sweep up flurries and whirlwinds of icy snow crystals from the earth, creating a beautifully clean landscape of white snow dunes.
"(Y/N)!" Mom calls up to me from downstairs, "Come on, everyone else is ready!" She notifies in a irritated tone. Jeeze, Mom is such a worry wart, always rushing me out the door to get places hours early! I pull my pastel pink parka on over my warm yellow sweater, and search hastily for my other shoe. "Yeah, yeah, coming!" I shout back to her. Hold your horses, woman.
"Smooch!" My Smoochum, Moxie, runs over to me with my missing moccasin in her tiny, little hands. "Oh, thanks Mox!" I thank her and she grins. I pick her up and zip her into my coat with me, her pink head poking out from under my chin. "(Y/N), let's go! NOW!"
"MOM! I'm here, I'm here. Chill." I draw out the word 'chill' just like she hates while flying downstairs and into the living room. My two twerpy twin brothers are already in the car, they broke in and set off the security system causing the car to wail loudly "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"
All of our neighbors peek out windows to see what's happening.. Dad bangs hopelessly at the windows, locked out of his own car. "Come on, boys! Please??"
Dad doesn't realize he has the keys... and therefore the power to unlock the car...
Mom takes the keys from Dad and throws the brats in back with me, once I unhappily squeeze into the family van too. Dad turns around to the back seat to pinch my cheeks like I'm five, "My little baby girl is growing up to be so beautiful, my little bunny princess smoochie kins!" He coos dotingly. Moxie loves it and begins making kissing noises along with him. My evil little brothers can't hold back mischievous snickers.
I sigh deeply. This forced family trip to the ice festival in town is going to kill me.
My family. In public.
They act like a fricken pack of wild Aipom, I can't stand it! And to top it off, I have to be seen with them?! This will be the public murder of my social life...
I sigh again hopelessly, and decide to look out the car's window and hope that the winter wind will whisk my problems away cleanly, just like it does to the hills and mounds of powdery snow. Maybe it could sweep me away too.
My worst nightmare becomes reality when we finally reach the lakefront festival.
The entire town is here. Not only that, but trainers from all across the REGION have gathered at Mahogany Town's Ice Festival to battle our town's Gym Leader! You have to be kidding me! There are crowds of people as far as the eye can see!
"Honey, let's go ice skating like on our first date!" Dad suggests to Mom, grabbing her hands and jumping up and down like an excited child... before falling on his butt after jumping on a thick sheet of ice.
"Haha, Dad's a snowman!" One of my little brothers laughs hysterically after my other brother orders his swinub to cover our father with snow. A small crowd of strangers gather around us, pointing and laughing at the sight.
My cheeks grow hot, before anyone else can see me with them I bolt into the woods.
"Smoochie?" Moxie asks me, concerned.
I run with her still tucked into my coat, trekking deeper into the snow covered woods, absolutely traumatized. "Come on Mox, they're awful! It's like they're trying to make me the laughing stock of the town!" Tears begin to flood my vision. Moxie doesn't say anything, but jumps out of my coat to walk beside me instead. "Come on, Moxie. We don't need them."
