We drive up to the restaurant, a nicer place- a sports bar. But the menu looked pretty good online so, I don't mind having to watch a baseball game during dinner. Wes picked it out and seemed pretty excited when he came to get me so, it's hard for me to be in any less than a good mood. It'll be nice to be out, just the two of us for dinner, especially after the scrutiny I had to put up with yesterday. They made a whole scene about us not going out enough, and here we are- out.

We get out of the car and make our way in, holding hands all the way up the few steps leading to the door. As I pull the heavy door and enter the dark wood paneled building, the dim lighting and smell of steak seasoning surrounds us. Woah, if I'd known this place was a little fancier, I would've worn something other than a faded flannel and a tank top. But he's only in jeans and a t-shirt, so I think I'm good. I always try to dress a little more- store bought with him. He thinks some of my stuff is weird and likes us to match a little more than we did before. It's something I'm willing to compromise with. I don't dress super weird, I just trade in something I bleach painted or sewed together for a regular t-shirt or tank top. Nothing crazy.

Before we can walk up to get a table, he pulls out his phone and texts someone. And before I can even form a thought as to who it could be, I hear someone call out to us from a table.

"Wes! My boy!"

Chad? He's waving at us in his letterman, already seated. He's a 6 foot tall football player in a bright yellow and royal blue jacket yelling our names, so it's kinda hard to miss him. Wes walks over, taking me by the hand and walking us over to his table. He hugs both of us and we slide into a circle booth.

"You ready? Man, the Lakers are gonna rip Detroit." Chad taunts.

"Nope. The Pistons have it here dude. It wouldn't be a hard loss anyways, the summer league is all rookies." Wes answers.

I look around in disbelief, is this really happening? Since when is Wes a sports fan? I knew he casually paid attention to ESPN, but now he's so invested he has to invite Chad to our date to watch with him? Our first date in 2 months at that.

A waiter walks over and takes our drink orders, I mumble something- probably a coke. My brain is on autopilot. Look, don't get me wrong- I love Chad, he's my second favorite Meeks twin- but why is he crashing my date with our date? I must be thinking a little too loud cause I see Chad do a double take in my direction out of the corner of my eye.

"Hey, y/n, can you text Mindy and ask her to grab my airpods. If not, I can do it, no problem." He leans over to me.

"Mindy's coming?" I ask. Who else is invited?
"Uh yeah- I thought- I thought everyone was..." His eyes shoot back and forth between me and Wes' contrasting expressions.

I look over to him.

Are you shitting me right now?

If he wanted to have a game night with Chad he should have just fucking said so. God, this is humiliating.

"Did you invite everyone?" I ask Wes.

"Just Chad, and if he wanted to bring Liv- yeah..." He defends himself.

He sees no problem with anything going on right now- no fucking problem. Chad picks up on the mood and immediately tries to break the tension.

"My bad, I thought this was a group thing- but now I'm under the impression that I just crashed your date night so- I'm just gonna head out." He starts to slide out of the booth.

"Chad- no- it's," I try to get him to stay, this isn't his fault. He really does just like hanging out with everyone. At this point, I'd much rather him stay. God I feel bad, this is so embarrassing.

"No no, it's totally cool, here- five for my drink. I'll catch you guys later." He slides a five dollar bill and throws a wink my way before walking out.

Wes and I both try and get him to stay, out of fear we'll have to talk about what just happened, but fail as we watch him leave. An awkward silence falls over us. The waiter walks back over and delivers our drinks, placing a coke in front of me, a tea in front of Wes and an extra sprite. I thank him and grab a menu in an act to distract myself and change the mood. I lean on my fist while scanning the food items listed in my other hand.

"You didn't need to do that." Wes mumbles.

???

I drop the menu a little bit, just enough to see him a little clearer.

"You invited other people to our date." I slowly push my head forward.

"It was just Chad. And Liv if she wanted to come. I thought maybe we could do a double date." He shrugs.

"If you wanted to double date you should've told me first. It just would've been nice to know." I settle and let out a sigh. If he really wanted a double date, Liv would've showed up because he would've actually invited her. It isn't hard to tell that her being here was an afterthought to him. Was I an afterthought?

"Okay, I'm sorry." He sighs, swirling his straw around in his cup. It's obviously been said out of annoyance to avoid conflict rather than sincere guilt. Does he really not understand that this is- wrong? Whatever, it's fine.
