Hannibal x (Bullied) Reader
It started off as some light teasing. But then it progressed to rude comments, degrading, and what would soon end up to be constant verbal abuse from two of my co-workers. I unfortunately shared an office with them, Carol and Tim. To make matters even worse I was living paycheck to paycheck, I needed this job. I couldn't just up and leave!
"Honestly, if you think that outfit looks good on you, you should look in the mirror before I too have to gag."
I had tried to fire back in the past, stand up for myself, but it always lead to twice the amount of bullying or harsher abuse. I'd put up with it until I found a stable job. At the moment that wasn't possible.
"Don't talk about yourself like that."
My comment got me slammed against the wall by Tim. He put an arm to my neck, not technically choking me but still having pressure on my neck.
"What did you just say?" He barked.
"Get out of my face," I said between gritted teeth.
He put more pressure on my neck and I almost couldn't breathe properly until he roughly took his arm off with one last jerk, making me gasp. My neck stung, bruising surely forming soon.
Tim didn't usually just back off so quickly, I looked for the source and saw that someone had approached us. Dr. Lecter walked over to us with his usual charming smile and perfect posture, whether he had seen what had happened or not he didn't look bothered in the slightest. But his eyes held a certain predatory look that sent shivers down my spine.
"Good afternoon," He greeted, "I heard a commotion while on my way to my office so I thought I would take a look."
Tim wasn't fond of Lecter, Carol was but she was dating Tim. Tim wanted to size up Lecter but he himself was shorter than the man.
"Just messing around," Tim slyly grinned, "Nothing more nothing less."
Hannibal raised a brow, "Is that so?"
Hannibal looked to me for confirmation or any sign of reassurance that I was okay. I lowered my gaze to the floor, avoiding Hannibal's burning gaze.
"Yeah, it is," Carol butted in.
"Well, in that case," Hannibal glanced at my wrists and neck, "I'll be on my way."
•••
Ever since yesterday's interaction with Hannibal, Tim and Carol always had to make sure he wasn't around before bullying me. They didn't do it as much anymore but when they did it was worse than before. I couldn't get mad at Hannibal for stepping in even though it resulted in increasing the pain. He was only doing what he though was right.
"Get over here," Tim ordered, "NOW."
Apparently I had done something wrong in Tim's eyes and would pay dearly for it. It was an early morning at work, Hannibal was not at his office until later. Suffering in silence appeared to be the best option.
Once I was standing beside Tim I saw the problem. I had forgotten to save all our progress on a previous project and now it looked like we had never done it. Tim was already in a bad mood, even Carol was wary of him this morning which was never a good sign if even she didn't want to be near him.
"Do you see this?" Tim was glaring daggers at me while trying to stay calm, his voice still threatening, "Do you?"
"Yes, I see it I'm not fucking blind," I rolled my eyes.
He grabbed the back of my neck and turned me to face him, "Don't you ever speak to me like that again! Because of you we have nothing left of that file! NOTHING!"
"Let go-"
"BECAUSE OF YOU WE MIGHT HAVE TO CLOSE DOWN THE FIRM FOR AWHILE!"
He squeezed my neck tighter and I choked before I elbowed him in the gut. He reeled back, loosening the grip on my neck until his hand fell. He slapped my face and I scratched his so hard I drew blood. I felt the red liquid on my fingers, hands trembling, scared with anticipation. Carol had left the room in a hurry once we started fighting, wanting no part in it.
"Wrong move, bitch," he growled.
He lunged towards me but I dodged him and ran out of the office, Tim right on my heels. Hannibal's office was just up ahead. He must have gotten here because the door to his office was unlocked, allowing me to open the door and run in. Hannibal had to be somewhere else in the building then.
"GET BACK HERE!"
Tim tried to grab at me but ended up only getting my shirt and yanking me to the ground. I landed with a harsh thud and struggled to get off the ground once he straddled me. A medal decor object was near, grabbing that I smashed it on Tim's head, earning a yelp of pain and more blood.
"Back off, you prick!"
With him stunned I got out from under him while holding the medal object in my hand. Tim staggered backwards a bit before regaining his footing and stalking towards me. I tried to hit him with the medal decor again but he hit it out of my hands and grabbed my throat, slamming me against the wall. He tried to choke me to death but the universe had different plans.
A door slammed open. The one to get into the office. Hannibal was back and that predator look in his eyes were back. Something appeared to click in his mind, one moment he was standing all elegant... the next he was running at Tim so quickly Tim couldn't do anything.
Tim was tackled down to the floor, Hannibal restraining him while throwing a few punches. I gasped for air, my throat burning and neck in pain with the previous bruise Tim gave me the other day. Tim was lying unconscious on the floor, at least, I think he was unconscious.
I had slid down to the floor, leaning my back against the wall as I composed my breathing and exhausted state. Hannibal crouch down in front of me, gently hooking his finger under my chin so I'd look up at him.
"What happened?" He asked.
He didn't ask if I was okay, obviously I wasn't. I'm glad he didn't ask that. Hannibal gingerly touched my neck and I winced in pain, unable to move my head back due to the wall.
"I messed up a file and I guess it was going to ruin his career," I explained, "So he took matters into his own hands... literally."
I tried to joke even though I was in pain, but it was worth it hearing Hannibal chuckle and shake his head in amusement.
"I panicked and came here," I added, "I didn't know where else to go."
"This is a safe place," he softly smiled, "Im glad you found your way here."
He held my hand and turned them over to observe the bruises there too. They weren't from yesterday or today, but had also been Tim's doing.
"Where does it not hurt?" He asked.
"I think it's just my neck and wrists," I pondered, "I'm not sure, I got jostled around a lot."
Hannibal gingerly brought me into a hug that was so comforting yet gentle to avoid any further pain that I melted into his arms.
"How about we get you patched up properly?" He asked.
"What about him?"
"Police are on their way."
"I guess I'm jobless now."
"If you don't mind my company," Hannibal smiled, "I think I'm in need of an assistant."
I pulled away from the hug. Searching Hannibal's face for any signs of bluffing but he was dead serious. I embraced him once again while saying ow.
"Of course!"
"Then it's settle," Hannibal smiled once again.
