You yelled, launching at the demon and cleanly slicing its head off, Turning around, you see the demon slowly disintegrating You lower your sword, and it slides into its sheath.

"Miss Y/L/N! Are you alright?!"

Your gaze wanders to the couple you protected. They hug tightly, the girl's face completely buried in the boy's chest. He looks at you with concern in his eyes. You softly smile and walk over to them.

"Thank you for being concerned about me, but believe me, I'm alright! Are you
two okay?"

"Yes, we're okay!
Thank you for saving our lives!"

You extend your hand towards
them, and they both get up. The girl calms down a bit and also thanks you.

"It's my duty as a Demon Slayer to protect people from Demons!"

You exclaim with a bright smile. The couple expresses their gratitude and leaves. Since your mission is completed, you can go home as well. You turn and start walking the way you came. You have to pass through a forest to get home. As you jog
by various trees and bushes
suddenly you hear flapping
above you. it's your Crow. You
come to a halt, and it croaks,

"A Demon appeared! Y/L/N
Y/N, you have to investigate!
North-Northwest! CRAW!"

I guess my bed has to wait for me a little longer.

You turn on your heel and run in the direction the Crow told you to go. You dash through the forest, thinking,

late.

Then the smell of blood
crashes into your nose and
feels heavy in your lungs. You
instinctively reach for your
Nichirin blade. After some time, you arrive at a large house. The air in this area is thick, it becomes even thicker when your eye catches sight of the corpse that lies on the front
porch. You quickly make your
way there in hopes they could
be saved, but it was too late.
You kneel down. They had deep, bloody claw marks all
over their body, staining their
clothes in a dark red. You also
notice that parts of their flesh
are missing, and a huge chunk
was ripped from the chest,
exposing the half-eaten organs
Your eyes fixate on the hallway
behind the dead body, and there are two more. The entire scene is lit weakly.

A family must have lived here.

As you walk deeper into the
house, you scan over the
deceased ones and curse
yourself for not being fast enough.

"If I had been here sooner, then I could have prevented all this!"

You say to yourself. Then you spot a detail about the remains. They still missed huge pieces of flesh, but they had fewer claw marks and severe burns covered their bodies. They are charred. You are unable to save them, but you can still slay the demon responsible for this. Their scent is strong. You let your nose guide you through the Darkness it leads upstairs.

More blood was splattered on
the walls. The air is hot and heavy, the demonic scent burns in the back of your throat. You walk past a few doors until you come to a stop in front of one. This is the source, the demon must be here. You kick open the door and a wave of heat rushes toward you, comparable to opening a preheated oven. The room's only light source is the
moonlight. They sit peacefully in front of the window, humming a little melody. unbothered by the horrific murders they have committed.

You recognize the melody

For a moment, you just stare
searching your mind for where
you heard it.
