“Ms. Webster, tell us the truth. You killed them, didn’t you?”. I was shocked and stuttered with his question. Tears began falling down my cheeks. Pain and fear came rushing back to my head. Today should be the day that we should have been walking down the stage receiving our diplomas. But now, I am here, paying the price that wasn’t supposed to be me.
I began to tell my story…
Hi! I am Meriam Webster, a soon-to-be Cumlaude at the University of Depensor. I am a friend, protector, and defender to those that trust me. But I can also be someone’s’ greatest enemy. My best friend, Alaina, was one of the sweetest person I know. She has a boyfriend named Jason, and Jason has a best friend named Allan. Allan has a friend, Cindy, who is tall, beautiful, and smart.
In a few days, we are about to graduate with flying colors, so to celebrate this momentum, we decided to go on a road trip and visit the famous haunted house in Beelzebub Forest outside of town. Allan pledge or insisted that he’ll use their family car because it had a lot of space, and it can accommodate all of us.
The day before the road trip, we decided to do an overnight at Alaina’s house, and to prepare the needed equipment and foods for the trip the next day. Inside the house, Jason and Allan suggested that we should have a drink before going to bed. They reasoned out that will serve as a part 1 of our celebration. I was hesitant at first because it will definitely affect our managed schedule in going out the next day. However, Alaina and Cindy insisted that we should all join. I was even called as “KJ” by everyone. This changes my decision and goes to Alaina’s kitchen to get my own glass wine. While looking for it, a glass cup suddenly slips from the side of the hands and it pieces were shattered to the ground. A sudden chill went down my spine and I remember the road trip that we are going to have.
All my friends had heard the sound of the broken glass and went rushing to find where the sound was coming from.
“What happened here?” Alaina asked.
“Are you okay?” said Cindy.
My heart was beating so fast while answering their question.
“Guys, I think we shouldn’t go tomorrow”, I replied.
The shocking with confuse look on their faces that I immediately responded, “This is a sign guys. A random glass was shattered and broken because something bad is about to happen. I don’t want to risk it!”.
They comforted me saying that I shouldn’t worry about anything for its just a superstitious belief.
Friday the 13th of April 2013 arrived. It was the day of the road trip. Everyone was excited except for me. Despite all their comforts, I still feel uneasy about this. But I never told them since I do not want to ruin their excitement and joy.
On the road, it began to rain. I seated the window side on the right wing. Beside me was Cindy. The 2nd row was occupied by Alaina and Jason. Meanwhile, Allan was the driver and sat at the driver’s seat. After a 4-long-hour drive, we arrived at our destination.
Long and narrow trees surrounded the van. While walking, the sound of crows, owls, and howls of a dog suffocated our ears. We reached the haunted house after walking for 20 minutes.A 3-story building can be seen by our eyes. We stepped in a building that was built during the 18th century. Stone facades, steep roof pitches, arch-style windows, cobwebs, and creaks on the floorboard. While exploring the haunted house, I saw Cindy smoothly held Jason’s hand in a seductive way. She quickly realizes that I was looking at them and pretended like nothing happened. I saw Allan went out of the house but didn’t bother asking why. “Maybe, he’ll just pee”, I said to myself.
