jake's pov

i arrived home safely and my mother was sitting on the sofa and playing with her fingers, i just chuckled and that's when she noticed me. she let out a sigh of relief and came to hug me.

"why didn't you head to bed first? it's late eomma." i said.

"i was worried sick for you jake, whose coat is this? i don't remember seeing you going out with this." my mother replied.

that's right. heeseung had given me his coat so that i could go home because he knew how worried my mother was. i remembered i had given him my number, i don't know where i got that much courage to put in my number in his phone. but anyway, i went to wash up and placed heeseung's coat along with my other clothes and laid down on my bed. i checked my phone and there was a message from an unknown number. curious, i opened it.

"hey, i've arrived home safely. have you?-heeseung"

i smiled at the message and replied him. in an instant, another text message appeared from him. it was the thumbs up emoji. i smiled before turning my phone off and closing my eyes with a smile. dozing off, once more.

heeseung's pov

i smiled widely as i kept staring at the text jake had sent me.

"yes hyung, i've reached home safely 😊"

the thought of him calling me 'hyung' made me smile so widely that my cheeks started to hurt. my brother saw how much i was smiling and gave me a look, i glared at him before he turned his head back towards the TV. i turned my phone off and he spoke.

"who's got you smiling so widely like that? i've never seen you smile so big ever since we lost hyein." he said.

my blood started to boil. i hated when our younger sister was mentioned. we had lost her because she couldn't mark her mate on time. she didn't tell her mate who she really was and her mate went somewhere without telling her that day. her mate's phone was turned off. i had followed her to help her find her mate but instead, i watched in horror as she screamed and cried in pain while she was slowly disappearing. i had to break the news to my family. i hated that day.

i glared at my brother once again but this time my eyes had turned red. red with anger. he got scared and called for my parents to which they brought me to my room and locked me in till i calmed down. of course, i did. but part of me was still upset. but i just let it slide and laid down on my bed, sighing. tomorrow is the day, the day where it is determined whether i stay in this world or not. i've grown close enough to jake but i still don't know how i'm going to tell him tomorrow. it was stressing me out and being in the comfort of my room isn't helping. i then got up and went out. i ignored my parents when they asked me where i was headed to and walked out of the house.

the park by the lakeside. that's where i decided to go. as i walked, i saw someone sitting on the grass staring far into the air. i wanted to walk away and find someplace else to relax my mind when i noticed that it was jake. what was he doing here? i went up to him and touched his shoulder which made him flinch but he relaxed when he noticed it was me. i apologised for scaring him and sat beside him while asking him what he was doing here.

he explained to me how his parents had gotten into an argument, a big one. their first one. he didn't know what to do at that moment, his brother wasn't at home which made him even more overwhelmed. he managed to sneak around his parents and ran out of the house and came here. i listened attentively as he told me everything, tears building up in his eyes. cautiously, i hugged him and he cried into my chest. it had hurt me to see him that way. i've seen him moody, but never have i seen him so sad. after a while and he had calmed down, he asked me what i was doing here. after making sure he had really calmed down, i explained everything to him. but of course, i left out the details which would hint to him that i was a vampire.

"i'm sorry that happened. but hey, coincidentally we both came here and here we are telling each other what was bothering us." jake added

i nodded and i suggested that we'd go get something to eat before heading home. jake agreed and we went to a convenience store to get some ramen, drinks and snacks. we went to a nearby playground after we had cooked our ramen and ate there since it was empty. i watched as jake ate like he had never eaten ramen in his life. i laughed.

"slow down will you? it's like you've never eaten ramen before." i joked.

"hey, it's been awhile since i ate ramen. what do you know, you eat it everyday." he replied.

he remembered, i had once mentioned in one of our conversations with our friends in school that i ate ramen regularly. it touched my heart that he remembered. i then ate my ramen and we laughed and joked a lot. i enjoyed jake's company, i enjoyed listening to all the crazy stories that happened in his life. i didn't have much to say but i loved listening to him.

after we were finished eating, i sent jake home and we bid our goodbyes. today is finally over. tomorrow is the day.

"i'll see you tomorrow hyung!"
