Chapter 7: The next wave from the unknown

Alex stood at the village bus station, waiting for his bus to arrive. His mind was preoccupied with the embarrassing encounter with his dad earlier that morning. He couldn't help but feel a mixture of discomfort and amusement as he recalled the condom his dad had given him.

Trying to push those thoughts aside, Alex looked away and discreetly slipped the condom into his left pants pocket. He shifted his attention to the road, hoping to catch sight of the bus approaching. Just then, his phone chimed with a new message.

Startled, he reached into his right pants pocket and retrieved his iPhone 11. It was a message from Robert, his best friend. The text read, "Where are you now? I'm already at the school cafe." Alex sighed, realizing he was running late. He quickly typed a reply, "Just in front of the village."

Robert responded with a teasing question, "Why are you so late? It's already 7:30 am." Alex rolled his eyes and replied, "Who will be the prince with a private condo room near school like you?" He added, "I bet even if you wake up at 8, you'll still make it to the first class on time."

Robert, always up for a playful banter, replied with a sly smile emoji and a money bag emoji. Alex couldn't help but chuckle at his friend's response. Then Robert sent another message, suggesting something unexpected, "Maybe you can come and live with me from Monday to Friday! I mean, live with me in my condo!"

Alex's eyebrows shot up in surprise at the proposal. He wasn't sure if Robert was joking or being serious. Curiosity got the better of him, and he decided to probe further. He typed his response, "What, are you kidding me?" He paused, his fingers hovering over the screen, waiting for Robert's reply.

To Alex's surprise, Robert's response came quickly, indicating he was serious about the idea. "Yeah, I really mean it! Come on, my parents won't mind, and I'm feeling lonely. We can have the ultimate best friend experience together!" Alex couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and hesitation at the prospect.

He began to type a response, wanting to understand the details of such an arrangement. "Living together sounds interesting, but how would it work? What about our families?" Alex pondered the logistics, wondering if it was truly feasible.

Robert's reply appeared on the screen, "Don't worry about that! My parents are cool with it, and we'll have our own space. It'll be like a boys' adventure every day!" He continued, "We can watch all our favorite series, play games, and just have fun! Oh, and did I mention we can even bathe together?" He added a cheeky grin emoji at the end.

Rolling his eyes and blushing at the thought of bathing together, Alex couldn't help but laugh. He knew Robert always had a mischievous side. The bus was now in sight, and Alex realized he needed to respond quickly. He typed, "The bus is coming. We'll talk later!" and hit send, not wanting to leave Robert hanging.

As he boarded the bus, Alex's mind buzzed with a mix of uncertainty and excitement. Living with Robert could either be an amazing adventure or a recipe for even more awkward moments. Only time would reveal the true nature of this unexpected proposal, and Alex couldn't help but feel curious about the possibilities that lay ahead.

Alex stepped onto the bus, finding it sparsely populated with only a few students from other schools and a busy-looking businesswoman engrossed in her laptop. He made his way to his usual seat at the back, where he could lean against the window. Settling into his seat, he took out his phone and resumed scrolling through his conversation with Robert.

As he reread their exchange, Alex couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and uncertainty about the idea of living with his best friend. The prospect of experiencing new adventures and creating funny memories together enticed him, but he also pondered the potential challenges and his parents' reaction.
