If you were to look at the world with the eyes of someone else, you may be shocked as to what you may find. It is never easy to share an opinion or view. What you may deem as perfect, may be imperfect in someone else's eyes. It is a complicated thought for some, especially as they are always so convinced they are right. Most however are open to new views, voices and opinions. More so now, than ever.
Such as, being a you tuber for a career. A few years ago most would have scoffed, laughed and shot down the idea. Yet, as time goes on it simply is becoming a more obvious career path. During the COVID-19 pandemic it became one of the most popular outlets to connect with people. Twitch gradually became more and more popular, gaining many young and small streams a lot of traction.
One of those people being Tom Simons, also known as Tommyinnit online. He was only sixteen when he started to get the attention of the mine craft community. Progressively he made friends and connections to larger streamers, allowing him to be able to start his dream career.
Naturally, life threatened to throw curve balls to the young boy. Things ranging from gaining so many followers so quickly, who to trust and who to learn from, where to find the support he needed etc...
Most questions he had were always answered by his friends, yet one he couldn't seem to answer was why he was always so sad and isolated.
This was where he decided to research how to meet people in the pandemic and he found an anonymous chat room. Here he could be himself. He could make friends and exchange snap chats and Instagrams (he would send them his private ones, making sure it indicated nothing about his twitch presence).
None of these people seemed to stick around very long, most of them getting bored of him and their chats really quickly. Some stuck around a little longer, mainly to exploit his willingness to help others mental health. Slowly, it got to him. The constant need to help people faded and they all left, once again leaving him on his own... isolated, sad and bored.
Somehow, he had forgotten that the people he knew online from his streaming were still his friends and would be there if he needed them. But, as he had realized he had anxiety, he constantly would try to reach out, only to be met with his own head telling him to stop. Every time he tried to reason and argue with himself, it backfired. Leaving him all the more upset and frustrated.
Eventually, he took a break from everyone online and went back to his chat room website, only to find it would be closing down in several hours, due to lack of funding.
"Shit!" the blonde yelled and buried his head into his hands, slowly starting to feel more and more helpless. "What the fuck am I meant to do now?" he asked himself, pondering if it was even worth trying to connect with anyone.
"What was that?" Tommy spoke as he glanced at the pinging sound coming from the PC in front of him. He sighed as it was probably the AI Help bot reminding him that the site was closing soon. Yet, when he checked there was a chat request from a girl who had called herself 'Tiger Lily'. Intrigued, he opened it and decided to chat with her.
Hours passed and before Tommy knew it, the site was closing down and the two had to exchange Instagram so that they could continue their debate on whether or not certain blocks should be added back to mine craft from the original version.
And for the first time since the start of the pandemic, he smiled. A genuine Tommy smile...
