Chapter 2: The Devil Is In Town

The breeze of the cold air touched my face as I walk down the empty halls of Haver High. Don't think that I am always punctual because it is nearing midnight. Yes midnight.

A smile broke on my face as I imagined whole new day tomorrow, assuring myself that it would be the talk of town.

Why?

Because I had completed a plan for Ryker tonight and all I have to do is get to school in the middle of the night and prepare for it to commence the next day.

I went to the office with my clicking grey boots, needing to get his information so I could get to him more than what they say of him.

To tell you honestly, he is quite the delinquent and I was surprised of his own little ways as said by the students who knew him, Talia included.

Nobody knows why he would return but everyone knows why he left. They say his mom couldn't take his rebellion, throwing him to some military academy. Some say he dealt drugs, others thought he was arrested but no one can tell the truth.

I know rumors, it spreads like no other and everytime it did, it is told differently - a unique kind of epidemic, a wild one.

The drawer I was after creaked lightly as I pulled it farther. The white paper named under Ryker Chasin appeared and I knew everything I had in mind will go as planned.

Or so I hoped.

"Hey" my Melise called as I grabbed a slice of bread and jogged out the kitchen. "Where are you going young la-"

"I'm late!" I shouted and swinged the front door with a loud bang.

Apparently, going to school last night resulted me getting up at 7:15, giving me like 45 minutes to ready myself and drive to campus.

I calmed my breath as I walk to Rob who is shaking his head in dismal. "What happened?" he spoke with his deep scary voice. Scarier than Julian's.

"What?" I deadpanned and pulled open the passenger door.

Rob, the chauffer and bodyguard as he would like to be called, stopped me by shutting the door close, "Where were you last night?"

Oh I don't need people knowing every single thing I'm doing but Rob and Julian just can't leave me be.

Am I that suspicious? That obvious? How could he know-

Dammit he saw.

"Somewhere you don't need to know" I thinned a smile, giving him various ideas to where I would have been which I certainly know he wouldn't like.

"You can keep that all you want. Julian won't have a hard time taking back this car" he threatened.

I scoffed, "Oh really? Then I'd gladly walk to class"

I stepped aside and paced to the gates and Rob snapped, "Get in the car!"

A giggle came as I turned to the Porshe again. Rob is a great man, he has been my chauffer since Melise met Julian and he knows Julian won't take the car back because my future step dad is just kind as he is.

I feel guilty of keeping so much secrets with them but what can I do? Those dark times should just be caged in me and my mom. If ever they'll know about it, then we'll be out of here that first second.

Oh how I wish that Sean didn't happen - that Sean was a good man.

But if he was, then I wouldn't be here. Melise wouldn't be Melise rather Frances. I won't have to feel the heat of LA's weather.
