Rosie's Perspective:
"No! Why do you do this to me?" I can hear the screaming from the other room. It's loud but it's normal. My friend told me that it shouldn't be normal, and they shouldn't yell at each other, especially in front of me. I think what she says is kind of hogwash. In this family, I guess we just yell. I decide to listen to the fight to see if anything new and juicy is happening.
"You have no right to talk to me like that." My mother screams. "Especially not if you're not even in love with me anymore!"
"Woman, just shut the fuck up. Did you know no one cares about your damn opinion."
"No! You are not allowed to talk to me like that. You know what, I'm divorcing your ass. I should've done it a long fucking time ago!"
"What? No. You can't do this to me. I love you." Daddy's voice falls into shame.
"No, you don't. You should realize that I don't love you anymore."
Mommy wouldn't divorce daddy, would she? I let out a sob. I don't want to live without either one of them. I hold my Beary and hope for the best. Why can't they just get along like my friend's family? Why can't my daddy be like her daddy? My friend's daddy at least doesn't come home angry. In fact, they seem like a pretty happy family. Of course, My friend's mom is a little dense and has this resting face that screams "I don't care.".
I let out more sobs, trying to ignore everything around me. The words are clear in the background: "I'm divorcing your ass!". It's being repeated over and over in my head. Just a spiral of doubts and depression. Just as if the monsters had come to get me.
To double check, I look in the closet. No monsters in there except my own.
"You aren't the husband I married!" I hear something crash against the wall. It sounds like shattered glass.
"You dare throw something at me you piece of shit." And something else clashed against the wall followed by my mother's shriek.
"I-I'm sorry." My mother pleads in between her gasps.
"You've done it for the last time you motherfucker." There was a loud scream followed by my mother. "You've done it now."
I run upstairs to check on my mother. I didn't expect things to get physical at all. I thought they would stop fighting like they normally do.
Gasping for breath I see Jackie run out of his room as well. "Mommy? Are you okay?"
"Jackie. Just grab the phone and dial the numbers 9-1-1." Jackie nods his head in fear. Sadly, the sorrow engulfed him, and the sobs filled the room along with pants and gasps for air.
"Are you going to be okay?" My hopeful voice shook in fear and pity. Pity for myself, my mother, and Jackie.
"Run outside and call the police." She hands me her phone. "Go!"
"Come on Jackie!" I grab his wrist and pull him outside.
I hear muffled yelling from my mother and Marcus. After a moment, the yelling stops, instead replaced with the sobs of my father.
