“Are you sure you know what you're saying?” I heard when I had just gotten to the door. And I paused immediately.
After my not so productive discussion with my mum, I immediately left to find Kimberly. I couldn't afford to keep repeating the same thing to my mum and even keep getting the same lazy and irritating response from her. It was totally weakening my spirit. And I didn't want that. I want the truth.
While I still stood, eavesdropping on their conversation without their knowledge of my presence, they kept on talking.
I watched my daughter and Elie, so focused on whatever it was that they had been discussing. They were seated close to each other, on the pavement outside our house.
Elie, one of our sympathizers' sons, was still in his teens, I guessed. Looking at him from behind, I could attest to the fact that he has truly grown. With his broad shoulders, deep voice, and height, he was no longer that little kid I knew back in those days, running around the streets of Ipodo.
“I know what I'm saying. I definitely cannot lie to you.” He said, and I observed how he spoke the English language fluently. His parents must have really had a change of heart and changed him to a better school, and not the nutcracker of a public school we had here.
“Where did you hear it from? Or rather, from whose mouth did you hear all these from?” Kimberly asked inquisitively. I could sense her intense curiosity, and I smiled. She was, after all, like her mother.
“I heard my mother and the other women in our compound, talking about it.” Elie said, and Kim seemingly paused to process what he had said. “I think you should tell your mother. She's the one in the better position to learn about this.” He pressed further. And that moment, my curiosity heightened.
It was of a fact that I had not really grasped what they had been talking about before I came in. But, right at that moment, I could feel that whatever it was, it was important, and definitely for me.
But, what exactly were they talking about? And how do I get to know about it?
It was clear that they had gone halfway in their discussion, and I really didn't want to interrupt their discussion. At least not yet. So, I waited a bit and continued eavesdropping.
.
“So,” Kim began. “If my mum goes there and meets the man, he can summon my dad from wherever spirit world he's in, and she'll ask him whatever and learn the truth?” She asked.
“Yes.” Elie answered.
“Just like that?” She pressed again.
“Yes, just like that.” He answered. “But, it comes with a price, I think.” He said afterward.
Finally, getting what they seemed to have been talking about in a summarized form, I froze to my feet. Perhaps, I heard wrong.
Was there really a place like that existing? Could I really get to meet my husband, and we'll be given a chance to talk? And if there was, why didn't I hear of it for a long time? I questioned.
I think a normal individual, in my shoes, was supposed to stay shocked for a long time after hearing such. But clearly that wasn't me.
Since I had regained consciousness, I had been talking about wanting to find answers to my unending questions, if possible, directly from my husband. And now, an opportunity seemed to be shining towards me. How on earth was I going to turn it down?
To me, it all seemed like luck on my side, and a path to walk from God.
So without any further hesitation, I jumped out of my hiding place.
“Where is the place? Tell me. I want to go there.” I said, and the both of them jumped fearfully from the pavement. Likewise, I could see the shock on their faces. But in the end, did I care?
I hope we're getting somewhere.
