Chapter 2:

The woods is a place for me to be alone. There's this meadow filled with jade vines, middlemist red, and kadupul flowers. If anyone else knew about this field, they would just harvest the flowers and sell them. I would not allow that to happed, this is my place of comfort I wouldn't allow anyone to ruin it. In the middle of the field is an old wise willow tree, her name is Willow. I read my stories to her sometimes, and she enjoys them and sometimes she'll share her tales, they're always interesting.

She told me a tale once where a girl was locked away in a tower, with very long hair. Some random fellow pulled her hair and she fell down. And she didn't land gracefully or in his arms, she landed on her hair and yelled at the fellow. How could he pull her hair she questioned, why was he even there she questioned. He simply replied "I saw a rope. Why not see where it leads to and it lead to a fair maiden".
"This fair maiden doesn't need you, know go somewhere". That angered the fellow, he thought the maiden would be happy he got her out of the tower. His anger blinded him and he cut the maiden's hair off. "Since you are not happy that I saved you, I will take your hair as payment". The maiden cried and begged him not to but he just laughed and rode off. The maiden swore she'll make him pay for what the fellow has done to her.

"Hello Willow! How have you been? Anything exciting happen today?" I yelled as I got closer to her. "No dear child, nothing new or exciting. Just the wind singing and the flowers dancing to the music." She replied. "Would you like to hear a tale or do you want to share want of yours today?" I asked her, hoping she will listen today.

"I would like to hear one if you do not mind sharing." she smiled at me. "Of course, I know a great one you'll enjoy" I walk to the base of Willow, snuggling up against her roots opening my journal and beginning to read.

When I was mid-way reading my tale about a land of the future to Willow when a strange voice interpreted me. "That's stupid, why would someone go to land where mountains are made of fire and the ground of made of gems, there is no such island." It seemed like the voice was coming from the top of Willow, so I began to climb. "It's a story it doesn't have to be true, it just has to be captivating."

"Then why tell a lie? Someone may believe it's true and go find that island? That's very charlatan don't you think?" I was just a few branches away from that strange voice when I lost my footing and fell. "Oh no!!" I was about to hit the ground when Willow caught me, "Curiosity killed the cat, remember that  Octavia Rose"

"There was a voice up there Willow, one who believes I am telling lies, that my stories are cons." I told Willow looking up into her branches trying to see the source of the voice. "Xeron is just a grumpy old bird who always has something negative to say just ignore him, and continue on with your story Octavia Rose." I did as Willow said but the thing going through my mind was, what was the story of Xeron?

I finished my story just as the sun was beginning to set. "Before you go, just remember curiosity killed the cat, Octavia Rose. Being curious isn't bad but it can lead you into trouble, the kind of trouble that can lead you to something dangerous. Stop thinking about what is going on in your head child, It's too dangerous."

"Of course Willow, but I must go before Mother or Father come and search for me. Good-bye Willow and good-bye Xeron, have a splendid night." I shouted over my shoulder as I began to run home for supper. How could she have known what I was wondering, was I that easy to read?

"What did I tell you, Octavia Rose? Didn't I say to stop disappearing at random times of the day and do not go longer than two hours?!? Where were you this time? Sleeping around the village?" My mother shouted as I walked into the house.

"Where else would I go to stay warm Mother? You know how warm it feels at Arredondo's house, especially on the bearskin carpet near the fire." All of a sudden I felt a stinging pain on my left cheek.

"You will not speak to me like that! I am your mother and you will treat me as so! I was worried about you Octavia Rose, every time you go and wander off, I have to wait here and see if my baby is coming home and hopefully you are not laying in a ditch."

"If you were really worried and not acting like you care about me, you would ask if I'm alright or how my day was or is there anything you would like to talk about. If you were really worried and cared, you wouldn't jump to questions about me sleeping around. So stop acting like a mother and act like the person you've been for the last seventeen years."

The concern from her face faded and was replaces with an emotionless mask. "You need to go market to help your sister pick out fabrics for your dress tomorrow until then you will stay in your room, with no dinner. Goodnight Octavia Rose." she said coldly.

"Goodnight" I walked upstairs to my room. I opened the door and went straight for my bed. My mind drafted back to Xeron. Birds don't talk unless they were cursed, so was Willow lying or was Xeron cursed? That was my last thought before I fell asleep.
