My head was killing me. A murder headache throbbed inside my skull and the bright light wasn't helping either.

Squinting my eyes, I slowly sat up. Where was I?

After a while I was able to make out that I was in Emma's living room and with that all the memories of last night came rushing back. Scrambling off the couch, I searched for my phone and eventually found it inside my purse which I had carelessly thrown on the ground last night.

It was dead. Shit. I was dead too. A dead woman walking. I bet Mel was already flipping out and going crazy.

I should have just listened to her and stayed home. Then I wouldn't be in this disaster now. I was feeling a mix of hatred and self pity, along with this suffocating unforgivableness of my horrible actions.

With only one night out I might have actually ruined my whole future. I might lose the girl of my dreams, the woman I planned on marrying. Fuck, I already bought a ring to propose to her. And know when she found out. If she found out... Emma would certainly be able to keep her mouth shut and no one else knows about it yet, so...

As fast as I got the idea I discarded it again. I couldn't lie to Mel, it would eat at me alive. And she would find out sooner or later anyways, she always does. So I sighed and decided to face her head on, go to her apartment and tell her about what happened, apologize a hundred thousand times and then hope, no, pray that she would forgive me one day.

I walked to Emma's bedroom and knocked on her door. When she didn't respond I just barged in and opened the blinds.

"Oh you son of a bitch, what do you think you're doing? Let me sleep for fucks sake."

"Emma."

With a grump she pushed her face deeper into her pillow. "What."

"I need some other clothes, please."

She pointed to her drawer without lifting her head. "Clothes in there, take what you want."

"And an aspirin, please?"

A heavy grown followed. "Fineeeeee. But next time you'll take care of me when I'm hungover."

Then she got up and angrily stomped into the bathroom down the hall, like a litte mad penguin.

Wordlessly she pushed the tablet into my hand. "You know where the water is. Can I please go back to sleep now?"

"Thanks so much. And sure." I gave her a warm smile and in response she just rolled her eyes. I couldn't blame her though, I would act the same way if I was in her position.

Suddenly there was heavy knocking on the front door. Emma sighed even louder than the knocking was and walked over to it, shoulders slumped. "Who is there?"

"It's Mel." I swallowed hard. This was not how it was supposed to go.

Like something woke her up all of a sudden Emma turned to me. "How the fuck does she know where I live?"

I shrugged my shoulders, really having no idea but also not really caring about that at the moment being. I had other, more important stuff on my mind.

Emma rolled her eyes and then opened the door.

As soon as Mel's chocolate brown eyes landed on me she pushed past Emma and then pulled me into a tight hug which I returned a bit.

"I was so worried about you!" My girlfriend said and pushed me away a little. She hit my arm, but it wasn't even that hard, so it was alright. "You could have died or something."

"Geeez." Emma chimed in. "She's a grown woman and she was out with some friends. Plus, I told you she was staying over at my place."

Mel's head turned towards my best friend and she glared daggers at her. "But still something could have happened to my baby. I mean, I called like a hundred times and you didn't pick up a single time."
