It had been three weeks since Mel and I got engaged. We had started planning everything and yesterday we agreed on a date only two months away. Because, you know, we wanted to get married fast.
My time with Mel was nice. Of course we had our arguments but we always made up. Pedro being my dog bothered her because she wasn't the biggest fan of dogs but we compromised about it.
Emma and I had met up one time in those three weeks and it was just for a quick coffee and chat.
I hadn't heard anything from Alex at all. Which was for the best. That was why I also didn't message her. I chose Mel and she then chose Brittany.
That was all until now. I was home alone, fresh out of the shower and cuddling with my giant baby Pedro when there was a knock on the door.
My dog jumped up as if he was stung by bees and sprinted faster than a dog version of Usain Bolt. I sighed and followed him.
Surprise was written all over my face when Alex stood in front of my door, a bouquet of white lillies in her arms. She smiled at me.
"Hi, Riley."
I was too stunned to speak. Pedro squeezed past me and started attacking Alex with wet, sloppy tongue kisses. Alex just chuckled and bent down, petting him where she could and scratching behind his ears.
"And hello to you too, cow."
The nickname for Pedro reminded me of other times before us.
"Here, those are for you." She pushed the bouquet into my arms and I noticed the flowers were already in a vase. My heart stumbled a bit when I realized she remembered my favorite flower and that I didn't have a vase. "I thought I'd just give you a vase as well since you don't have one."
My eyes didn't leave her face, still not believing that she was standing right in front of me. "Thanks." I muttered, baffled.
Alex straightend up and was towering over me once again. Our eyes met and this exciting feeling spread inside of me. "You're very welcome."
"Why are you here?"
She raised a single eyebrow, the one with the hot piercing in it and I had to swallow. "Can't I visit my friend when I want to?"
I shook my head and stepped to the side, allowing her to enter. Pedro obediently followed right behind her. Alex took of her shoes and marched off. On my way to the living room I quickly put the flowers in the kitchen.
I found Alex sitting on the couch and Pedro right next to her, her hands lazily petting him. Her eyes met mine. "So..." she trailed of and had this wannabe innocent look on her face. "Anything new in your life?"
"No, not really."
"Are you sure?"
Now I knew for sure that she already knew about my engagement. She wasn't a good liar if I said so myself. "I'm engaged. But you already know that, no?"
She bit her lip and drew my attention to how red and good they looked today. Not that anything about Alex didn't look good, like ever. "Yeah, I do. Emma told me some time ago."
"So that's why she wanted your number."
The other woman just smiled and nodded her head.
"That little- Why did she tell you?"
She shrugged her shoulders. "Wanted me to intervene and steal you away from your fiancée."
My mouth fell open and I frowned. "What?"
"I know, I know. I told her she was crazy."
"Ok, good. Then I don't have to do that."
"Yeah... she told me some crazy stories. Like crazy crazy. Then I told her she was delusional."
