Chapter 26 – Caden
The sun beats down on Amelia and me as we continue walking deeper into the forest. Hours have passed since we started our search for Grace and as we grow closer to the center where the lake sits, the less hope I have in finding her. With a defeated sigh, I lean against the nearest tree and take a deep breath.
"The good news is we are growing closer to the lodge." Amelia states sadly as she joins me in leaning against the tree, exhaustion clear as day in her blue eyes.
"The bad news is we can't find Grace." I add somberly, looking towards her. To think just days ago Amelia and I became friends looking for Grace in the first place and now we are back to square one. With a sad smile on my lips, I close my eyes and open my senses once more trying to get any trace scent of Grace or the wolf that took her. I just want that hint of mint and lavender I have grown attached to, a strand of her silver fur glinting in the sunlight giving me a clue on what direction she might have been taken in. Anything to find her and hold her tightly in my arms.
"Caden?" Amelia calls out softly, my eyes opening as I turn my attention to her.
"You're falling for her aren't you?" She asks, her eyes soft with unshed tears as she takes my hand. I nod slowly, eyes widening as she brushes her fingers cross my cheek, wiping away tears that I never realized have fallen.
"Then let's find her." She smiles encouragingly at me, pulling me away from the tree as we continue our search. My mind is whirling as I think of what I will do when I find Grace - find the she-wolf calling to my heart. Amelia is right, I have fallen for Grace and after this stupid event is over I plan to romance her until she is mine and I am hers. I just have to find her first.
"This is strange."
"Strange indeed."
"A male and a female neither mated nor in love."
"What are they doing so close to the center?"
"Don't they know we lurk about."
"They might but something seems strange."
Three bell like voices flitter about the forest, forcing Amelia and I to stop in our tracks. I had thought we had walked away from the Fae territory but apparently I was wrong. With a growl of annoyance I turn to Amelia ready to warn her, but instead I find her uncovering her ear with the earing on display.
"Oh a token, she is a friend."
"I wonder if she is friends with Silver Fur."
"Oh I love Silver Fur, she smells like lavender and mint."
"I wonder if silver fur is here in the forest."
Three small creatures appear before us, their wings fluttering fast yet silently as they circle Amelia. She smiles, holding her hand out flat as the one with blue wings lands gently on the palm of her hand.
"Hi Sunny. I haven't seen you in forever." Amelia greets the pixie, a sub species to the Fae.
"Melia, its you!" Sunny smiles out with a giggle, her friends landing beside her.
"Yes and we are actually looking for Silver Fur. Some Ragers took her." Amelia states. The pixies reel back in shock, their already large eyes growing larger as they huddle together.
"Are you sure they took Silver Fur?"
"She is a fighter, how could she be taken?"
"We are sure. I was there when they took her." I answer the pixies, stepping closer to Amelia to look each one of them in their eyes.
"The one that seems to be their Leader is the one that took her. He had a dart gun that knocked the two of us out." I continue, the pixies looking even more shocked.
"Those bastards. How could they do that to Silver Fur!" Sunny explodes in anger, stomping her little feet against Amelia's hand.
"Rain and Nova, go let the Princess know what is going on. I will guide Golden Boy and Melia to the Ragers." Sunny orders, the two pixies nodding in respect before taking off. Sunny smiles in satisfaction before her little wings begin to flutter and she takes off.
"Follow me this way!" She calls out, leaving Amelia and I to have no choice but to follow her. Hopefully with the help of these pixies we will be able to save Grace in time.
