BACK TO THE STORY
Sleeping on the cold hard floor of a cave and using my arm as a pillow, was not my ideal way of sleeping. But it was that, or sleeping against a rock, fetal position, like Kenji.
I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes, seeing light shining out of the entrance of the cave. I looked back at the small fire we were able to make, it was pretty died down by now.
I stretched my arms out and let out a yawn, cracking my back from the worst sleeping position I've ever had to be in. Surprisingly, as I finished stretching, everyone else slowly started to wake up. Maybe being around each other for so long, we've just connected sleep patterns.
"My back," Daruis complained as he sat up, trying to crack his back.
"My neck," Kenji groaned, rubbing his neck.
After pulling ourselves together, we all walked outside the cave. Now that it was daylight, we could actually figure out where we were.
The blinding bright light beamed at our faces as we left the cave, like a flash bang for our eyes. But once our vision cleared, we discovered ourselves in a desert. With mountains and lands of sand, and a few cactus scattered around.
"Okay, so... definitely not Costa Rica," Brooklynn muttered, looking around with everyone else.
"It looks more like... Australia? No way we went that far, though. Right?" Daruis questioned when Kenji suddenly placed his hand on the side of his cheek. "Kenji, what are you doing?" He asked with squished lips.
"Making sure we're not dead," Kenji said, looking ahead with a worried face. "Cause if we're dead, we'd be ghosts, and if we're ghosts, I'd be able to, like...Ooh," He said with a ghost voice as he moved his hand and wiggled his fingers, "Go through you and—."
"We're not dead!" Daruis smacked his hand away and marched forward.
"Well, now you know. You're welcome," He said as he smiled with his eyes closed. Kenji and Daruis scooted down the hill, standing next to Matt and Brooklynn who were already checking out the place.
"So, we know where we aren't, but do we have any idea where we are?" Matt said and crossed his arms as he looked around.
"Nope. Just that we're stranded. And alone." Yazmina slumped down on a rock as she grabbed a peddle and threw it, "Again."
"We just gotta assess the situation." Daruis pitched to keep us calm, though he sounded pretty unsure himself. I looked around at what was just sand for miles when Ben walked next to me. My heart jumped from my chest as I saw him, but he wasn't paying attention to me.
He put his hand over his eyes to shield the sunlight, squinting his eyes at something in the distance. I slightly turned my head to look at him, and he darted his eyes at me.
Surprised, I lightly gasped and looked away, feeling a little embarrassed he saw me. I shot a glance at him, but luckily he was staring back at whatever he saw.
He squinted his eyes a bit more before his face lit up. "Hey, hey, guys!" He said, sliding down the hill to the others. "Look at that! Over there in the distance. Something shiny!" He jumped on a rock, pointing out in the desert.
Everyone crowded around Ben, trying to find what he was talking about. But as I looked around more, I could see a small beam of light shining in the distance.
