Please understand that I do not support KOSA in any way. This is just me trying to inform people and an attempt to calm people down about what's going on with KOSA.

KOSA: Kids Online Safety Act

----------

I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but tomorrow, 7/27/2023, KOSA is not:

- Being voted on

- Being implemented

- Becoming a law

- Being presented to either of the voting bodies of Congress

None of these are going to happen tomorrow. As stated on the official Congress website, tomorrow is the start of the committee phase of KOSA.

This means that there is still a lot of time before any voting happens. The US government does not have the ability to immediately make something a law.

For a law to pass in the US, it would first have to be introduced, then it goes into the committee phase. After that, it has to make it through the Senate, the House, and then it would have to be signed by the current President, who has the power to veto the decision.

The veto has the ability to be overturned by a 2/3rds majority vote in the house, outside of specific circumstances that don't allow for a vote to overturn the veto.

Another thing to take into account is that the Democrats currently have the majority in the Senate, which is the first major barrier that KOSA would have to get past.

KOSA was created by Republican lawmakers. This means that even if all Republican senators were to support KOSA, they wouldn't have the majority necessary to get it past the Senate.

All this means that KOSA won't become law tomorrow, which gives us as a community more time to do something about it.

If you share this with others, great. That means more people know more of what's up with KOSA.

If you don't want to share it, that's also fine. I don't really care if you share it or not.

Just please don't give me any hate for doing this. I just want to prevent more panic than there already is.
